Thats ur reverse gear. If ur shifting alot it starts to wear that down really bad. To the point where its like that.

Yep, it happens when shifting to reverse. Happened to mine and I hardly used reverse. If you really like your reverse just buy a new gear for it. If you don't use it much, i recommend a FOC (forward only conversion). With the FOC you will not have that problem again. Traxxas makes one for under $15 (plastic) or I did a Robison Racing FOC with metal gears for about $45. With either FOC your trans will be stronger, truck faster and lighter (at least a little) because you can get rid of the optidrive (if equipt) and the shifting servo.
Just remember to completely dissasemble trans to clean out the pieces of plastic shredded gear. You don't want a chunk of that to get inbetween your new gears. It is also a "dry" transmisson so no grease or lube needed.

Well, your trans has cheap plastic stock gears. Everyones did at one point. Since you only have a 2 ch radio, get the FOC. I would be willing to bet your engine is not running backwards. The gear in question was suppose to slid back and forth, if $$$ is an object just pick up the traxxas FOC, your problem will be solved and the reverse gear does not even go back in the trans. You actually lose quite a few parts out of it with the FOC.

yes, shifting into reverse while the truck is moving forward does bad things to tranny parts. also, i think you bumped your caps lock.

It can, more HP means more potential for wear and breakage. If you plan on doing the picco .26 I recommend using the Robinson Racing steel gear FOC. It is a little pricey compared to the traxxas plastic version, but well worth it. The metal gears will hold up to the abuse much better. I have an OS18tm and while it took awhile It has eaten a diff, trans gear(before my FOC), and a few spurs ( probably not adjusted correctly).
Things break, my philosophy is once a part breaks, I buy the best upgrade I can for that part. I don't want to break it again. Better parts are more $ than stock replacements, but if I don't have to replace it again it is well worth the coin.

There is a good article in the current issue of RC Driver Magazine on beefing up a Maxx tranny. Complete list of part #'s and instructions with pics on the mod....just what you're looking for!

You might do a search for Ultimate Engineering. I think they even have aluminum tranny housings. Hope you got D-E-E-P pockets!
