Default Break In Process

Hey,

I was wondering if it is a bad idea to break in a motor in the winter time?

Thanks

Its not really a bad idea, You just have to make sure your engine reaches optimal break in temps. For the trx 3.3 it is 200 to 215 degrees. You can help reach the temps by wrapping the engine head with material such as a paper towel or foil. Just be sure to monitor temps so you dont over heat.

No, Traxxas.com shows you how to do it in the winter time. I did mine in January when it was probably between 15 and 25 degrees. It made it a little harder because the motor doesn't like the cold to begin with, and it had a hard time working during break in at first.

Helibud is right. I had to wrap my head in foil to reach break in temps.

What if I am not using a Trx 3.3.

I have the Super Tiger 4.4cc in my truck, the temp would prob. vary right?

well, i would say just try to run it in the cold..ect and if you have trouble keeping it running or idling because of the cold and or cant get up to at least 200 like helibud says then throw on some foil around the head, most guys cover halve of the head with foil but anything to keep the heat in will work!

I did mine here in canada in pretty cold temps, kept a good eye on my temps with an odonnel temp gun an covered as much as needed with body on.

So far so good, the suns coming up now, going out now a couple bro's to race now, peace all.

Just dont lean out your engine alot. The cold needs ALOT of fuel in the crank at all times.

rawk is rite, it needs alot of fuel, dont get frusterated if you flood it a few times during break-in, man i miss the cold, its very odd here in CA rite now, usually the hills are green, roads are wet, well not this year, i can think back when i got my jato for my bday in feb, it was too cold to drive and was raining on and off all day for weeks. not this year, i love the winter too well ya back on topic, just think happy thoughts if you flood it haha
