take of the motor and if you are looking at the front of the clutch bell there should be a pin thingy that is shaped like a C. pop that off and the clutch bell slides off. and no that has never happened to me. i have melted a clutch bell and i have never had to replace a spur gear. the one im running is a little bent so it is harder to set the mesh but it gets the job done

how to set the mesh well first off dont use the paper method
what you need to do is line it up then hold the clutch bell and wiggle the spur gear you want around 1mm movement only

you put the motor on so the screws are in but you can still move the engine and slowly tighten the bolts until the mesh is perfect. usually it is a good mesh if a piece of paper fits snugly between the spur gear and clutch bell.

line the gears up and put a peice of paper in between the gears and tighten the engine down. always worked for me. once you have done it few times you can set the mesh without the paper.

well i tried that method but it was not accurate enough for me i get a good mesh the way i stated
also i suppose it could depend on the thickness of the paper
