RE: help for the tyrannosaurus
turn the idle screw counter clock wise to lower idle. or your LSN could be lean...but then the engine temps would also be high.

RE: help for the tyrannosaurus
Guys, why are you telling him to start turning needles????? You have no idea what his truck is set at, if he's tried tuning or anything. We don't even know if the engine is broken in yet. A high idle can be many things and what exactly does "pretty hot" mean? A newb has no way of knowing how hot too hot is and his engine may, in fact, be too cool since he has nothing to base engine temps on.
rc newb86,
What have you done to the engine so far? Have you tuned it from the factory settings yet? Have you even broken the engine in yet? If the engine is broken in then it's time to tune it, if not then that needs to be done first.
Most rc car & truck engines tune the same and since you said your instructions suck I'll give you some links to help with tuning. You will need to know the factory settings for your engine so that you have a constant starting point though and most rc engines have slightly different starting points. The one thing all factory settings have in common though is they are all very rich, or should be.
Here are a couple of links that should help.
This link will help you in [link=http://www.traxxas.com/support/index.php?action=artikel&cat=88&id=450]Identifying the needles[/link]
This link tells you how to tune the engine [link=http://www.traxxas.com/support/index.php?action=artikel&cat=34&id=92]Traxxas tuning instructions[/link]
The next two links will show what tuning should look and sound like.

Good luck, try not to get too frustrated, nitro rc's do have a learning curve but once past that they are a lot of fun.

RE: help for the tyrannosaurus
Well, unless you've only run a tank or two - and those not hard - then you probably don't need to worry about the break-in as the damage is already done. If you've only got an easy tank or two then do/finish the break-in. If you need to you can lean the HSN out to finish the break-in BUT only up to about 1/2 turn total and do it in 1/8 turn increments and only until the truck will keep running for you. You want it pretty rich for break-in. If your truck did not have break-in instructions then use the ones on the Traxxas fourm, they're pretty easy for a newb to follow.
After break in then you MUST tune the engine for performance (see links above), the truck will never run well until you do. Once you tune the engine correctly it should ru much better for you.

Wouldn't hurt for you to cut your teeth on the Tyranosaurus. You could learn a lot about tuning and troubleshooting that could be applied later when you decide to upgrade to another type of truck.
