Default ports what are they?

the picco .26 has 5 ports and i was wondering what are ports and what do they do, cause the site im getting it off says it increases performance.

its where the exhaust comes out of.

ports are holes in the sleeve that the piston goes inside of. they let air and fuel into the combustion chamber and let the exhaust out.

And the better an engine can "breath" the better the performance.

It is a good question though. And to add to your question, if you don't mind... Why would 5,6 or even 8 ports be preferable to say just two large ones?

I have some ideas on why but would really like to hear a good explanation.
