Default Do you have a failsafe installed in your truck?

Hi there!

How many of you have a failsafe installed in the truck, indenpendently on whether you have it as an individual module or integrated in another device (optidrive, receiver, etc.)

The Revo has a throttle return spring, which brings the servo back to -0- when radio communication is lost. That has generally saved my behind, however it's not "perfect"... unfortunately, I HAD one in the Revo but realized that the LST2 needed it more... so, I moved it.

The one I have is not a actual separate failsafe per say; but the failsafe itself is built-in to the radio system I use which is the spektrum dx 3.0 it has its own built in failsafe and seems to work pretty well; however just as a backup Ive got a good ole throttle return spring just in case I lose all battery power suddenly...

A friend of mine got tired of the M-troniks Micro failsafe (his MGT 8.0 went WOT directly to the wide ocean!!). He bought recently a Spektrum DX3 and is very happy with it so far. He has though no redundant failsafe.

Same as I have done with my Revo. Did have a Venom FS before I installed the Spektrum but it never was "used".

I use the throttle return spring trick and it seems to have worked so far.

Spectrum's failsafe only works one way, if you lose volatage then you are screwed.. My 3PM FASST is great, but I should really get a throttle return spring (I'm using rubber bands now...)

Here you can see the [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/reviews/409/underhood26.jpg]throttle return spring[/link]

When the throttle is wide open, the servo is pushing the throttle arm. In this case the "throttle return spring" is extended and is trying to pull the throttle arm back.
If the servo batteries run low (or if you loose the connection to your truck and you don't have a failsafe module), the throttle return spring will automatically pull the throttle arm back (the engine goes to idle) because the throttle servo hasn't the power to maintain the spring extended.

The throttle return spring can be considered as a mechanical failsafe whereas the failsafe modules you are hearing about solve the problem by means of electronics.
