RE: help finding a good motor for t max
How much better does the 3.3 hold a tune rather then the 2.5?? Im currently in the same position, I would like to get the 3.3 since i have a new THS exhuast on its way and i could use it, but i dont want to get it if im going to have the same problems. Ive heard some people having great tuning luck with their 3.3 and others just say that motor sux. So yeah im totally in the same predicament as you.
Does anyone know how the RB 323 compares to the 3.3 and 2.5???
Not trying to poach on your thread or anything man, just figured i had the same question maybe we could share the thread

Depends on how much you want to spend on a motor. I've had my S-Maxx about 3 yrs. now and I would have to say that I've heard O.S. .18 more than anything. The 3.3 does not compare to the RB323. I have a cousin to the RB323...Sirio .23 and it will eat the 3.3 alive. The 3.3 will eat the 2.5 alive but with the 3.3 tranny also.

all traxxas motors are a PITA to tune. if your having tuning issues i would go with an OS picco or RB. and IMHO RB 523>Picco .26 maxx>Os .21

picco .26 max....I just ran like 10 tanks today and I can't even keep the front wheels on the ground...tore 1 rear wheel off the rim today..I can flip it right onto its back from a stand still....the worst part is the scratched cooling head from so much lid time.

Like i said the RB is an excellent motor. My friend has one in his S-Maxx. The stock motors don't compare to the RB. I have a Sirio .23 and I haven't done any drivetrain changes except for steel rear diff gears. If you get something else I would buy anything different until something breaks.

So how do the 323 and the 523 compare to each other? Is the 523 a lot more powerful? And how do the piccos and the sirios all compare to the RBs and each other?

I believe the 523 is better than the 323 but I'm not sure about the power. Sirio .23 and RB 323 are the same motor from what I've been told. I think the Sirio .23 will outrun the Piccomax .26. I love my Sirio .23 to death. It has been very reliable and will outrun a lot of engines.

RE: help finding a good motor for t max
Here's my 2 cents worth. I just upgraded 2 T Maxxs one I found a new OS.18TM on fleabay. The other I bought a 523RB. All I can say is WOW. the OS is a rocket and a hell of a torque monster. The RB is just insane. I destroyed a set of RD logics rear drive CVDs on the first lean out tank, can't wait to see what this thing is capable of. Either motor is great. I am probally going to get a Picco .26Maxx and swap it out with the OS just cause I can. LOL the OS is more then enough for the Maxx but I wanna see if a properly sealed and tuned Picco is a good motor. I was going to get that first but all the hooro stories on here made me change my mind. Now I wanna see for myself. The RB comes with header and pipe plus mount. The Picco you need a mount, header, and pipe. so they end up about the same price. The OS comes with a mount and pipe but is ungodly expensive now since they canceled the 18 and only offer the 21. OS is easiest to tune and highest quality. RB is also high quality but a little finicky on the needles so far. and sorry but I cant comment on the Picco yet. I will say which ever you chose loosen up you slipper alittle. the wheelstands are cool but these motors are unforgiving on WOT landings and hard acceleration onroad. Ordering my MIP drive axles and center shafts now.

RE: help finding a good motor for t max
A lot of people on here complain about the Piccomax .26 about the carb. I had a problem with mine too. Like MikeA said these motors are unforgiving on WOT landings. Wide open I've never had a problem after I put steel diff gear in the rear. If it were me I'd go with the RB.

Just make sure you get the Traxxas wheelie bar. It'll help some. Also when you break it in and get it tuned right if you get the 24 tooth clutchbell and 64 tooth spur gear you'll have a speed demon on your hands.

Well, I have the extended chassis and that didn't stop my front end from lifting up and doing half block long wheelies when I first got my Sirio .23.
