Is the after run procedure really necessary? (Sidewinder fuel)
My LHS says that I don't have to make the after run procedure with SideWinder (Race blend, 25% Nitro, 12% lube). I am aware that no matter what the tank and the fuel lines shall be emptied.
It doesn't take me many minutes to make the procedure with WD-40. However if it isn't necessary, why should I?
There was a similar thread [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6936460/anchors_6943606/mpage_1/key_morgan/anchor/tm.htm#6943606]here[/link] but people ended up discussing whether it has castor or synthetic oil. My question is only whether I should use ARO with Sidewinder / Morgan fuel.
Could you please shed more light on this topic?
EDITED: Poll added.

RE: Is the after run procedure really not necessary? (Sidewinder fuel)
If you look on the jug, it says to not use after run with this fuel I never did and never had troubles. Matter of fact, an engine i has that sit for 8 months looked new and everything was perfect, even the bearings

You should because it keeps the engine lubed up while it sits. So then when you go to start it, there is less of a chance of metal to metal friction. Plus it keeps the motor from rust, corrosion, etc.. Its a regular maintenance thing that will pro-long your engines longevity.

The only time I perform after run procedure is if my truck is going to be sitting for more than 2 weeks. Otherwise, corrosion doesn't have time to build.

I saw a thread like this a while back, they were saying that ARO or WD-40 would react with the ARO in the Sidewinder fuel.

I always use after run oil after every days running.
I always use after run oil after every days running.
So you use after run because you use Traxxas fuel.

For other fuels I would then say yes you need to do the after run procedures.

RE: Is the after run procedure really necessary? (Sidewinder fuel)
Most nitro fuels now days have pretty good rust protection to offer, I let my Sirio .23TM sit without after run oil for over two years! OOPs! Anyway I have looked in through the rear port, then took the engine apart after I saw this thread and No rust of anykind! I use Trinity Monster Fuel 20% nitro and 12% castor oil. I also use foam ear plugs to plug up the carb and tuned pipe, thats what saved me. Now when fall and winter come again I will use after run for the time I'm not using my truck.

i don't use sidewinder (or any of the well known fuel sin the U.S, i use either nitro X 20$ or hobbyman top fuel (unrelated to traxxas top fuel) and i don't after run my engines, let them sit for two months, started first hit on the bump box, no corrosion, no rust, no nothing.

He's asking if you use after run, if you use sidewinder or morgan though. I wouldn't confuse him like that.

From the above posts and the results of the poll it seems that there is consensus to skip ARO if you use Sidewinder / Morgan fuel. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]
I've just bought a gallon of Sidewinder and will not use ARO. I'll let you know in the forum if I start seeing any indications that the engine is rusting.

No you don't have to put ARO every time you drive, but you do need some. Like when you have a new engine, you should take it apart clean it out (to get rid of metal shavings and stuff) then oil it up, seal the engine (and carb) with RTV (red or copper) then drive. You should take your engine apart every gallon to inspect it, and when you put it back together use ARO when putting it back together.
I wouldn't go with out ARO, but I wouldn't do it every time I drive.

RE: Is the after run procedure really necessary? (Sidewinder fuel)
I used to put 6 or 8 drops in everday I ran my truck wich was just about every day for 4 gallons or so. I noticed and it showed in some of my pics that it built up quite a layer of aro on the rod and piston. It could have clogged the oil hole in the rod if I continued to do so. Since that time I have used ARO sparingly and only when I know I am not going to drive for a few days or more. I would like to hear more about the assumption of it reaccting to the fuel Sidewinder makes.
But I am just a troll apparently. I could be making this stuff up.[]
