Default Axial .28 vs Mach 427

So it's come down to an axial .28 or a Mach 427/Sportwerks .26. I can get all of them for the same price, which do you think would be best? My friend had an axial in his savage and it hauled, but this is going into a revo 2.5. How much is too much?

I have a mach 427 so I can say it has good low end as well as good top end, and that's with a STS 0702 pipe which is made for the STS 30 so I'm sure with a 053 or 086 pipe it would do better.

I've seen videos of the Axial 28 and from what I saw it lacks the top end the 427 has, but I can't say for sure.

I would go with the mach 427/SW 26 if it were me.

i have had both the 427 and the axial .28, and the axial may be a power house the 427 shines in a light truck like a revo, a higher rpm range, and if its gonna be in a revo it will smoke your friends axial .28.

so i would go with the 427, its a quality mill, over the axial not saying its bad but its known to have a bad front bearing and has bad air leaks, i have sealed mine and i think my front bearing is going now cause i find a oil near my owb and that's a sign of a bad front bearing.

i have been looking at theses engine for my Revo also. Im think im going to get the Sportweks .26 just becuase I've heard the 427 is a little thirsty on the gas. I plan racing only so that why the gas is important. but from all the research I've done the 427 and the SW 26 are great motors for the Revo.

I have had both the Axial and SW 26v2. I sold the V2 to get an Axial and it was the worst thing I could do. The SW absolutly smokes the Axial. The Axial is real weak on top and even if you gear it high to gain top end teh SW is so far ahead of it. The SW/427 is the best low budget engine for power and quality you can get. The SW is slightly better because of teh carb. The carb has 3 different carb inserts so for racing on large tracks you can use the small insert to save fuel. For all out power and bashing or short tracks the 9.0mm insert is awsome. You can get the SW for about 130. Awsome engine. If your track follows ROAR rules the SW is Illegal to run.

Most tracks limit the engine size to .21's. A Revo is light and will screem with a .21 in it. I only run .21's in my Revo and get almost the same results as with a big block.

Are either of those engines drop-ins for the Revo? If not what does it take to get them set up?

They are not drop in motors, you will need a BB conversion.

But nothing else besides the 427 and a BB conversion? Is there a big difference between an 18tz and the 427? I know these are noob questions but I am a noob so...
I bought my revo off ebay and the engine that came in it is shot.

a Picco Redot 26 would smash both the 427 and the Axial 28..plus it drops right in !!!

Noob? I guess you are going through the big power and speed phase. Go get a massive BB and gear it to the sky! Soon after you will realize hey I want to tune this thing so I can control it and maybe make a complete lap around a track without crashing! What you end up with is a .21 and lower gearing. You can only go so fast around a track. How fast is to fast before your truck is un-controlable?

Go realy fast and hit stuff! Sounds fun!!

I'm going through the no engine in my truck phase. I just figured since I have to get something new anyways I might as well get something bigger. But thanks for all your concern. I will be sure to get your ok for every part I am thinking about getting from now on.

If you are racing you probably want something like an O.S. 18-21 in there. Anything more will make it hard to control on the track.

Im not racing, just taking it to the park by my house or a strip mall parking lot where a bunch of guys run after the stores close. Both pretty wide open spaces so I figured a big block would be fun. If I end up racing at some point I will just put something smaller in it.
