Default WD40 instead of after-run oil?

i was wondering if after i run my tmaxx i can take out the plug, bottom out the piston then add in a little squirt of WD40 and then return the plug and let it sit. i read this tip on a RC site somewhere else and had never thought of this before. the concept makes sense but i dont know if WD40 would trash an engine or not. please help.

wd40 is good you take the fuel line out of the high speed and take the plug out and spray some wd40 in then spin the motor mby spray it one more time and spin then put the plug and line back .After run is better but wd40 is good if you have a pull start or electric start because it does not gumb up the one way berrings so they last a bit longer ,when you use after run or wd40 it is good to do it with your motor still warm before it contracts to much .

Most fuels have synthetic lubricants and antioxidants that eliminate the need for after run oil. It even says so on the side of some fuel jugs.

I've only ever seen one fuel that said that. Methanol is hygroscopic (attracts moisture), so you need afterrun oil or an equivalent (WD40 works fine) to displace the moisture and keep the engine from rusting.

Remember:

WD40 displaces moisture. ARO eliminates it. WD40 will gum up the engine over long periods of time.

It doesn't matter that it has oil in it. The Methanol attracts moisture, so you have to burn off the last of the fuel in the engine, then put in afterrun oil (as I said before WD40 works fine) to prevent the moisture from rusting the engine.

Been running motors since the 80's and never used ARO or WD40 and never run them dry. Never seen rust in any. Not saying it's stupid, just not necessary IMHO.

yah methanol is not good just because it has oil in it has nothing to do with it . ir rusts your motor and it evaporates and only the oil sludge remains

i say if it works for you then do it. some run AFO some dont, i dont and have never had a problem. i let my .15 rusty set for 2 years fired it up and it ran great, so i personally dont run any. i think wd40 would work but i would be careful about it. in my opinion i think it could warp your sleeve if the engine is hot enough and you spray enough cold wd40 in there, but thats just a thought lol. i dont care what anybody says, but if it works for me than im doin it. every man to his own pretty much lol.

Just so you know.. WD40 = Water Displacement... thats what the WD stands for. I reckon some of you should try putting some fuel in a glass over night and see what happens to it... The color is virtually gone by morning. Yeh can't go wrong using ARO.. you really can't.

Interesting debate on WD40. Anyone heard of Jig-A-Loo? I actually work for the company and am interested if anyone has tried it. It's basically a silicone-based lubricant and water-repllent (and it contains no oil, grease, or wax which several of you noted as being detrimental). That's why there's been a lot of talk on people switching over, especially on car and truck maintenance.

Instead of talking about all of it's uses, we are hoping people will want to try it out for free. That way they can see for themselves. If you are interested, head to http://www.jigaloo.com/us/e_tryonefree.php to download the rebate form. Also let me know if you have any questions and let me know how it works for you.

You are absolutely right. Was referring to the discussion of WD40 in general - I should have been more specific. The stuff is great for door locks, ingnition, hand-operated window cranks, and for door, hood and truck hinges.

Glad you are enjoying the product. If you get a chance, I'd love to hear how you are using it and what you like about it (or don't).

Thanks for the response and pointing out the need for clarification.
