Default Want bigger engine for 3.3 revo.

My 3.3 revo's engine life is almost over now, it doesnt have that much compression left now. i am looking for a bigger and better engine that wouldnt give me as much headache as my 3.3trx did. I had always have tuning and overheating problems with the 3.3. What's the biggest and best engine that doesnt overheat as much as the traxxas engines and is aloat easyer to tune that i could put in my revo?

Picco .26 red dot is a monster from what I hear.

The .21 tm is good also. The price is pretty steep though.

Those are the two small blocks out there right now.

How hard is it to tune the picco red dot and does it overheat easily like the traxxas engines?

from what i HEAR, the Picco Red Dot has a small 'tuning window', but dont know from experience. but when you DO find the 'sweet spot', its a MONSTER... it is reasonably priced at $224 (tower, and other), and pretty much a direct drop in, with the Ofna motor mount.

not sure about the temperature thing, but if you are good at tuning, i think THAT engine is the way to go... All around great engine, i hope to get one in the near future, when my funds allow it!! [&:][:@]

The red dot atleast my red dot is verry nice and easy to tune and i run 30% and it runs verry nice right at 200 to 220 , i was running short about 50 yard bursts at .5 trigger to 3/4 with no break between and the temp stayed steady 203 threw the whole tank ,i am just about broke in and the engine has never stalled once except for running out of fuel , I thought i would have some sort of issues to work threw tuneing but it has not had any issues so far . and you can get it for 199 http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/25772

Like one of the other posts mentions; its a strong and very good engine(IF u know how to tune using a narrow "window")....especially for the price its a good engine....

I agree with the others from what i've read. If you want true low end pure power you could consider a big block engine but then you have to extend the chassis and do a bunch of other upgrades but you definitely get more power. And in my world POWER is the name of the game. I'm thinking I might go big block once my 3.3 dies.

Remember if you tune right have a good smoke trail check you plug to make sure there is oil on it you should never hit 300 at the plug. If you dont havbe oil on the plug your running to lean and every engine you install will over heat. So make sure you tuning it right. Better its a little slow today then overheated and in the trash tommorrow. When I first started tuning I was always to rich on the lsn and too lean on the high side. Which cause me to overheat when I was gunning it for long periods of time. But at idle it was spitting fuel out the exhaust causing me to think it was tuned right. But 3months, 2 engines later, here I am giving advice. When you get the new motor dont touch the needles till the truck is fully warmed up. That was my mistake. I'd start her up and start turning the needles every which way. Just let it warm up ride it around and then lean it out 1/16 of a turn tell you think you in the sweet spot. Also from my experience unless there is more than a 15 degree difference in temp on my picco I never had to adjust more than 1/8 of a turn. So once you got the new motor dialed in take note of how many turns out the needles are and use that as a base setting for the future.

I have a picco .26 maxx and to be honest it great but once i since an ab modded p3 at my LSN I was sold. I got the 26 cause that was what everyone had and basicly a straight drop in when you get the mount. But now that I know a little more I need modded .28 minimum. The only problem is with most true bigblocks you have minor modificating to make it fit. Move the tranny up motor mount. Bigger fuel tank cause ther going to be thirsty. But If you want big than live the mid blocks alone and go for the jugular. Pull start also. I loved the ez start for a while till I got the picco and it took forever to get started the first time. I got a glow plug igniter and pull start and it was like night and day when I started her up. Shes starts on the first pull all the time. Also all I have to carry around is a thin duratrax glow igniter.( its only good for hot and warm plugs. Sux at haeting cold plugs. The AA just does have enough to consistantly heat up a cold plug. But it beat caring around a 7.2v batt and ez start.

Cough...RB 523....Cough

The motor......is wicked.

RB motors hold a tune like no other, and the EZ start works like a champ with these motors, even fires it right up when new.

what would be the comparison on how easy it is to drop in, compared to the Picco?? just curious, because I hear alot of good things about the RB 523 AND the Picco.. I'm just more concerned about ease of installation...

thanks for the info dkastil... that would be something i would have to think about, IF i had the $300 at the time, i would probably get the RB, but if i was strapped for cash, probably the Picco.. both are good choice either way

get the picco and when you get some cash send it to ab mods to get a stage 2 mod job and it will have more power than the rb .

The HP thing is not how you should look at it, there is no way to accurately measure the output of these motors...pretty much a ballpark stat. RPM's play a major role also, HP is a product of torque and RPM and either of these engines will put down more power than you can use and more than enough power to strip drivelines, so it's up to you to get the gearing right and control your throttle finger.

I think the Picco is a great motor, but IMO I think the RB is a better motor. Mainly for how well they perform at higher RPM's and they just flat out rip and keep pulling to the end.

Indeed, the RB is also a good choice to go with because of how strong those motors are...I know that first hand becauase Ive got a RB in my 1/8 buggy at the present time...

the rb is better and peek hp is at 37000 i think the red dot peek hp is 34000 that will give you a better top speed i dont know the numbers on stage 2 modded picco or its rpm range . The thing i like about the picco is it is 200 bucks and verry good quality and power it is not the best but when you think about the price to power and quality ratio for me it fits what i want ,i dont race and a picco sleeve and piston is 67 bucks if i blow up .

You won't be runing these motors at 34000 RPM's for extended periods unless you are racing top end in a parking lot.

Whatever you choose the truck will be fast.

The picco Red Dot will smoke the RB 523 easily....Especially when you put some left hand turns into it.....There is countless threads started in the last year in this forum to prove my point....I bought an RB for my Tmaxx and sold it before ever putting any fuel through it......I now have an old style picco .26 max Tmaxx and I just ordered a red dot picco .26 max for kicks and giggles
