RE: nitro stampede trouble
You might have to change the piston & sleeve
Go here to buy it. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXMHT6&P=ML

So if you nail the throttle to take off like a raped ape and it dies. . . . AND the temps are 290+ if your putting around, it sounds like you are way lean. Try leaning out the High Speed Needle at 1/8 turn intervals. Try some high speed runs then bring it back. Do that a few times til you can nail the throttle and it takes off. If that doesn't work, you may need to do an upgrade. Just my thoughts. Good luck to ya!

RE: nitro stampede trouble
that is a 1/2 gallon and not 5 correct? Unless you did not break in correctly I wouldn't think you need a piston and sleeve that quick? I did have an engine that had the same symptons, but it was worn out, I wouldn't think yours is with only 1/2 gallon thru it. Air leak? Too lean? I am sure more experienced ones can help you more, just wouldn't run out to get that piston and sleeve that mmtecg suggested yet!!

RE: nitro stampede trouble
did you adjust the needles during break in??
it sounds like your engine is fine i think you are super lean b/c 300+ degrees is way too hot for an engine.
if you didnt then the needles may have not come stock.
the factory setting for the needles are:
-4 turns out from closed on the HSN
-the LSN should be even with the carb slide while the carb is closed.

Wait what do you mean that it WAS 2 whole turns lean or that you turned it two turns lean?? you should have richened it.

RE: nitro stampede trouble
For goodness sakes, if you're already lean, DO NOT continue to lean it out.
Start with the high spped needle at factory spec, I believe it is 2 1/2 turns and go from there. You are definetly lean right now from what you describe.
Remember to make adjustments in SMALL increments, use the 12 hour clock method. The 12 hour clock is 12 equal marks (imaginary) around the needle, move it only ONE mark at a time and retry the setting.
300 degrees is too hot, you should be in the 230-270 range for correct settings. I presume you're using 20% nitro, the Traxxas engines seem to like the Traxxas fuel best.
Make sure the low spped needle is at factory setting and DO NOT move it until you get the high speed workingproperly. The factory setting is flush with the inner shoulder of the housing.

RE: nitro stampede trouble
Factory on a trx engine is 4 turns out on the hsn, 1 3/4 on the lsn, and 1mm gap on the idle screw...
Factory Needle Settings
If your factory preset carburetor adjustments have been tampered with,
use the following settings:
• Set the high-speed needle to 4 turns out
from closed.
• Set the low-speed needle so the screw head
(red in Fig. A) is flush (even) with the end of
the slide (yellow in Fig. A).
Always use the factory settings for initial starting. Only use these settings
when the factory settings have been lost.
