RE: C130 Tease
That is pretty cool. I have been in and out of RC aircraft for about 15 years now. I am a C-130 crew chief in the AF and have often thought about building one, but with now multi engine experience, lack of time, money, and room I am going to have to wait till retirement, only 9 years away. Please keep us posted on that one, would love to see flight pics/video. Good luck.

RE: C130 Tease
Well, its done!
1 year later, 1500 hours build time (by Dave Gauer....35 years building) and about 100 hours "set-up" time (my wife thinks I'm nuts)....ready to kick the tires and light the fires! Denb broke the engines in (why we call him Mr. Saito) and inspected the plane prior to set-up for "tweaks".....as well as building a gallon slurry tank for air drop. Lots of help went into this....having fun!
I'll post Pics when we get those props a turnin.

Bob,
That is a great looking airplane. Could you please post more details on your slurry tank? I have been tweaking with the idea for a while but have not yet found a suitable solution. Either it leaks or there is too much movement of the water to make it a safe flight.
Thanks,

RE: C130 Tease
vicar I'm the engine guy and tank builder for this Herc
The tank was built by lost foam proccess ie: epoxy glass layup over a styrene block fitted to the inside of the plane on the C.G.
When we got the block the my shop we did the layup with 3 layers of 1.5 oz glass and West systems epoxy.
There are mounting plate built in the the base for a (slide in bolt in install and removal) the valve is a combination of off the shelf plumbing weird thinkin and head scratchin r/c whackyness if thats a word.
BUT it works with one servo no leaks and a drain rate of 1 gal in 14 seconds ,also it can be turned on and off at will.
It does have slosh baffles inside but if you think of it as full with no air in there it can't slosh around
I'll get some pictures of he valve set up soon
all it took was a little fiberglass a little welding a rubber ball one servo some ply

RE: C130 Tease
As Muhamad Ali stated...."float like a butterfly, sting like a bee".........flies like the champ! Take off and landings are little more like a Jerry Cooney fight.......hard landings, zig zag down the run way during take offs.....but for a 133" HEAVY BIRD......a few clicks on aileron, a couple on elevator...... 3rd flight was an absolute dream!!!! (first two were a bit shaky due to an over caffinated/adrenilated pilot...me)
We flew down in Manteno, IL at Larry Arseno's field (thank you Larry and gang!!!!).....800x100 bent grass runway......and used about 500+ for both takeoff and landing (25% flaps on take off, 50%- 100% on landings). Engines ran beautifully through whole spectrum (flight engineer knows his stuff!!!....Denb), could not have asked for better maiden conditions.
I'll have a short .MPEG to post shortly of the maiden (3rd flight.....1st & 2nd flights were "accidentally" erased..
Having a ton of fun!!!
Bob
OOPS .mpeg not supported.............any idea how to get a video clip on here?

RE: C130 Tease
Hi Bill
The file is BIG'un.....requires any .mpeg player (did with Real Player). Should have no issue downloading.....will check tonight to see if there is download limit on that site.
Bob
p.s. I can e-mail if your cache will allow for a 10 meg file. If you know how to zip a file, let me know....will cut down on download time (I have 30 minutes of C-130 maiden tape.....216Meg.....if I can zip to a smaller file, I'll sendout)

What you need is some video editing software that will allow you to render the clip using a lower bit rate and/or a smaller frame size. This can greatly cut down the size of the file.

RE: C130 Tease
Hi Bob,
Just for giggles, and since I had your clip on my hard drive anyway, I ran it through the software I use to render my video for my web site.
Using my high bandwidth settings, the video is now 1,933kb in size.
Using my low bandwidth settings, the video is now 652kb in size.
I can email the re-rendered clips to you if you wish. Use the email button below this message to get your address to me.
Regards,
