Default Back in the saddle

After a long (maybe 10 years) layoff from flying twins... I jumped back in today with an old Royal P-38. The plane was built over 15 years ago, and last flown about 10 years ago. New engines (OS 46 FX), a great set of modicon (?) electric retracts (predecessor to Kraft electric retracts), and fowler flaps. It was a short flight (maybe 4 circuits of the field), and except for the landing approach, it was perfect. Nice long smooth takeoff. This plane has such a solid feeling to it (maybe because it weights about 14 pounds). After turning final I got a little sloppy while fumbling for the flap lever, but I got it back on line before getting over the threshold. I had allowed it to drift a little to the far edge of the field, over the ding weeds. Landing was at mid-field and it didn’t roll more than 75 feet. I would never have believed that a plane this heavy would land as slowly as it does. Fowler flaps are wonderful. Time now to do a little cosmetic cleanup (get rid of 10 years of hangar rash). I'll have to see if I still have some pictures of it, if anyone is interested.
