Dan I have a Cermark Islander with two fox 40 two strokes . Flys good at half thro. Made new necessls so I can use 10 oz tanks if needed. This is a very forgiving plane for a twin. I w8ill fly on one motor not great but will fly.

Hi Dan and Happy Hollidays to you and yours.
It is my understanding that the Islander from Cermark is no longer avaible. Maybe as not covered.
I have a friend that has two Saito 25 <i think> 4 strokes in his and it will fly if both motors are running at max. If one motor is a little off he has to find a place to park it. We fly at 6000 ft so we need a little extra. I think 53 4 strokes would be perfect. You can always thro back. This a easy ywin to fly and land. There was a thread on another Islander made in Europe and imported. Search this thread. I will be leaving for a couple days. If you have more questions I would be happy to help.

RICH
GOD GAVE US A THROTTLE FOR TIMES LIKE THAT...WOULD RATHER FLY AT HALF THROTTLE THAN FULL
ANOTHER THOUGHT I HAVE IS I WANT TO HAVE A CENTRAL TANK AND FEED OUT TO THE FINGS
YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT...........IF ONE ENGINE GOES SO WILL THE OTHER AND ALL YOU WOULD RUN IS LINES KEEPING IN MIND THAT CORRECT HORIZONTAL POSITIONING BE KEPT
I HAVE 2 -25'S WITH DIESEL HEADS PUT OUT ENOUGH FOR 2-40'S PLUS EACH AND TUNING IS ALOT EASIER AND NO BATTIERIES
YOUR THOUGHTS?
BOUGHT IT THIS MORNING ......$123 NOT A BAD PRICE FOR A TWIN ARF
CAN YOU GIVE ME A HEADS UP ON THE PEFORMANCE OF YOURS WITH THE 40'S?
ANY CLOSEUPS OF YOUR ENGINE DETAIL AVAILABLE?
BEST
DAN

Dan I have only seen one plane fly with Diesel . For the mess that it makes ii I personally don't want to try it. It might work fine. A single tank would work but I would use a Perry pump for each motor. and don't use a presure return from the motors. I made new Necessels and motor mounts. When I get back I will take some pic of the necessels and mount and send it to you. I thought I had some but I must have deleted them . With necessels and the Fox 40 I had to add 0 weight to ballance. Did Cermark have them back in stock?

Dan,

I "had" an hobby hangar OV-10 on 2 os 25 diesels. Like myself, you have played with these engines for some time, and know just how forgiving they are in the tuning department. That is why I chose them for my first twin. Unfortunately on its second takeoff, a sliver of balsa that was in the right fuel tank from building, got pulled into the fuel line. I am sure you can figure the rest.

As for the one fuel tank thing. I personally wouldn't waste my time with the complexity of it. HOWEVER if you "want" to set it up for the orther engine to quit, if one goes out, just tie together your 2 muffeler pressure lines with a crossover line in the wing. Clamp off the "crossover" line for starting the engines. After they are both running right, release the clamp and fly. Now if one quits, the fuel pressure from the good engine will be bled through the exhaust of the dead engine, causing the good engine to go way too lean, and quit too.

Easy huh....

Personally I wouldn't do it. For how much power WE are dealing with, you could fly that bird back to the field on just one of those 25s

Dave

DAVE
LIKE YOUR APPROACH!
I JUST THOUGHT THAT BY MOUNTING THE MAIN FUEL TANK DIRECTLY ON THE WING AND OVER THE CG AND RUNNING YOUR FUEL LINES THROUGH THE WING TO THE ENGINES. THIS WOULD MAKE FOR A SIMPLE YET EFFECTIVE SYSTEM WITHOUT MODIFYING THE WING MOUNTING AREA
DIESELS ARE GREAT...... MESSY BUT GREAT! DONT HAVE MUCH LUCK WITH CONVINCING MYSELF THAT ANYTHING BELOW A 46 IS IMPROVED BY DIESELIZING
YOU TAKE A MECOA 46 AND DIESELIZE IT AND YOU HAVE ONE OF THE MOST USER FRIENDLY AND POWERFUL ENGINES POUND FOR POUND PERIOD. AND INEXPENSIVE AS WELL
I'VE GONE TO MAKING MY OWN CAPS AND MODIFIED THEM TO BE ALOT MORE USER FRIENDLY THAN DAVIS DESIGN
BEST

Dan, My islander has a pair of Saito .56s firewalled to the main spar and reinforced all around. Two perry pumps go to one 16 0z tank on center with main spar in body, vented to the bottom of body, useing original fiberglass nacelles, reinforced main gear, seperate flaps with aileron servos in the wing. Top it all off with an Air Jamaica ultricote scheme, Very impressive,Wifes favorite. Trying to get photos posted on this site for you guys. Stay in touch, MJS

peque good luck with your maiden. I am still flying mine. It is a very forgiving twin to fly. Engine out is no problem, just turn with the rudder and land. I see you are from Bellingham WS. I lost a real good friend from there last year from lung canser. Rich

I also have a factory hand drawn 3-view of this aircraft.

I flew mine (maiden) after a few days on working on the engines finally today i worked on them for the last 4hrs more I don't know if because they're upsidedown or the fuel line is too long from the tanks, one kept on quiting and with the help of my buddy we got them to run some what ok! Well it flew for about 30sec and the starboard engine quit!! i reduce power and turn around and land it, and the first thin in my mind was to conver this thing to electric. some one suggested a pair of check valves on the fuel lines!
I'm open for any of your tips!!

peque I made square necessels andmounted the engines sideways. I put an 8 oz tank in each of the nessels. I haven't had a fuel problem at all,. Rich
