Default Don Smith B-29 question

I am getting ready to start my 5 year plan to build the 141"b-29 from ds plans. After looking at them for a while this afternoon, the first question I have is what is with the rudder horn?I understand the hinges .It is a pice of 1/8 wire that runs the lenght of the rudder, thru 2 pivot points made of aluminum or fiberglass or phenelic material inside a plastic tube,do not know why a plastic tube would be used unless to try to cut down friction.but then it shows what looks like a tube over the wire with the rudder horn on it.know the only way this is going to turn that rudder is if that wire is epoxied securly to it.anyone that has built one of these could you please enlighten me a bit on this part of the contruction. Thanks

Can't help you but if you take a pic of the plans in that area and post it someone might be able to figure it out.

It's not real likely you will find a lot of builders of this model. It is a "major" undertaking for even the most dedicated modeler. BB Webber at Bomber Field has built 2 of them over the last 10 years.

I have the D.S b-17 plans also and the rudder setup is almost the same ,take a look at your b-17 plans and see what you think.

Ive got the 169" plans and it looks like old style hinging. 1/8" music wire soldered to a brass tube and the tube is most likely epoxied to the three lower ribs. Though you could probably make it removable using wheel collars to lock the wire into place. Just a thought...
