RE: NEW KMP TWIN - Adam Aircraft A500
Hi guys
It looks like I've been lucky enough to get my paws on what I guess is the last untouched kit of the Adam 500 ( huge huge thanks to Alan C at YT ).
It's my intention to detail it a little more with lights and a decent cockpit similar to my 337 .. see here [link=http://youtu.be/LdlQh57SPVs]YT/KMP Cessna 337[/link]
Does anyone have and info on the lighting placements, I cant find too much online?
As I first fell in love with this aircraft when I saw it in the Miami Vice movie, I've managed to locate Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx (in MV guise) figures, they should be here next week.
Any help with lighting would be much appreciated!
Cheers
Scott

Can anyone who's added a cockpit to this thing post any pics you have ? If I add anything decent I may go for a couple of Voys LCD displays.

Guys
A quick question for anyone who's built one of these.. when you fit the ali wing tubes into the centre section and trial fit the booms.. how much wing tube did you have to slide the outer panels over? I only have about 4 inches once I fit the boom, doesn't seem enough??
Not impressed with this thing at all. Supposed pre-drilled holes don't exist, nothing (& I mean nothing) lines up and one of the retracts is jammed solid [:'(] If I'd paid retail for this it'd be going back [&o]

Hi
i would try this:
messure out how deep the tubes are and try to get a tube which is long enough......
or you do my way......make your own tube out of carbon and reinforce it with and straight balsapice and be happy.....
The gear is worse...i ´d say ,you look further on in this report, we´re a italian guy describes what gear he uses.....
best regards and a happy new year

Try Sierra Precision for your gear. They can make an identical match and the quality of their landing gear is awesome. The other option is to send them to Locked and Down and have them convert the stock retracts from pneumatic to electric retracts.

yes all the compsoite parts...i want not to fly lead through the air...I think i will manage to get the piston one with two os 91 FX with 7 kg MtOW in the air.....Composite means light and strong...but that part is missing in chinise work......like esm etc.....
at work i have a engine cowl and i stripped it down....what a quality......mastic and color and in the end airbubbles in the composite whrerever you look.....
okay somethimes you pay an extra price for cheap parts.....
Best regards

RE: NEW KMP TWIN - Adam Aircraft A500
Scott - re wing joiners - these are about 440mm long and mine slid inside their allocated space andI didn't epoxy them in as explained below. I left 185mm of each tube protruding from the boom. From memory I think they butted up against a wing former.
I measured where the securing screw goes as shown picture 37, page 8 of the instruction manual 40mm to wing end (this is supposed to line up with a former inside the wing) and from this measured afurther 50 mm along the tubewhere a second screw was to be installed.
I then hadsome wooddowel machinedto the inside diameter of the wing joiner tube. I thencut 2 pieces ofthewood doweland epoxied them insideeach tube toallow the securing bolts to line up with the marks at 40mm and 90mm from the tube end at each end - 2 pieces of dowel in each wing tubenear each end.
Holes were then drilled through the wing into the wing joiner and into the wood inside the tube. From here I tapped 3mm holes and installedtwo by 3mm x 25mm Allen head boltsinto each wing joiner for added security- I didn't want screws straight into aluminium tube - the threads would wear out in no time.
I did the same again for the inboard part of the wing joiner inboard of the wing boom - 4 Allen bolts into the wood inside each wing former -my reason for doing it this way was to allow forremoval and replacement of the wing tubes should they ever break or be bent.
I did see inboard fixing of the wing tubeswith epoxyat picture 15, page3- but I chose not to -the above is how I did mine.
Hope this helps - cheers - maxiemac

RE: NEW KMP TWIN - Adam Aircraft A500
Latest update...
The issues with the wing joiners have been sorted, anyone else notice how brittle the gelcoat is? [:@] I'm currently making carbon pushrods for the rudders and starting off on a decent cockpit...

The gelcoat is brittle, the wood is sub-standard, area's of weak glassing, etc... trying to be nice and not bash it too hard. I ran out of steam on mine just trying to get it into reasonable shape, seemed every time I looked at it I could find something wrong. Got tired of fixing things. Maybe I'll get back to it one of these years. Waaay cool plane, and certainly won't see many no matter which field you fly.... but man.. ESM/KMP did no favors to this model with the substandard construction.

Thanks mate.. glad its not just me! I've had several ESM/YT/KMP models and this is by far the worst ever [:@]
I've had several events now that have made me wonder if its worth continuing to waste money replacing everything on it but I guess I'll see it through [&o]. Its no fun though when it becomes a chore rather than a hobby....

RE: NEW KMP TWIN - Adam Aircraft A500
You'd be amazed at how much paint was used. I found quite a number of areas where paint was used to 'fill' poor construction. I almost think the thick paint job was more to give a number of areas some rigid integrity and help hold the thing together, as deduced from the sub-standard 'glassing I found underneath. Example, its one thing to have a builtup sheeted wing glassed, quite another when the formed glass IS the wing...
