I Just measured the inside of the necelle at the line where the nosebowl meets the rest of the necelle (1.175" from the face of necelle) I got 6.170". Saito lists 170mm, which is just about 6-5/8" Thats about 1/2" too big for the necelle. Am I correct on this ? I hope I'm wrong because a pair of thoes would be pure sex.

Wasabi.

170mm is correct (6.6929"). I've resigned myself to the fact that I will have to put holes in the nacelles.

After all, isn't that why God invented the Dremel Tool??

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but how are you planning to slip the nacelle over both cylinders, without either cutting the nacelle in half horizontally or taking off the cylinders from the engines?

The nacelles cannot be installed any other way but perfectly straight.

Dick,

I'll remove the valve covers. That will give me enough room to slide the nacelle over the engine diagonally. The cylinders are staggered, they are not exactly opposite each other so I should be able to get the nacelle over one cylinder, push it over as far as it will go then position over the other one.

Hopefully it will work!

I got My new 310 this week. I resigned myself to installing 4 strokes because that's the way it has to sound....
I ordered 2 of the Magnum 70"s from Tower. The price was just too tempting. $100. ea shipped after all the
coupons and other "club savings". But after looking the plane over I thinks its a big mistake. The heads are
going to stick out an inch out of the cowls and really "ug-la-fy" the 310. If the OS 55's will fit I will order them.

I have owned a Nosen 310 for 24 years now. The one pic is from 1982 the other last year. Boy has that plane aged......
The Nosen has a 10' wing, weighs 30# and is powered by 2 OS 90 FSRs. The new TF 310 will be so much easier to lug to the field.
I'm starting on her this week. Can't wait for Spring !!

Put holes in those beutiful necells.... Ouch. Being fiberglass, I supose you could fair in a couple of 1/4" blisters the lenght of the necelle and not butcher the scale looks of the kit as is. You could try it on one necelle first. If it ends up looking bad you could buy another necelle. Might be worth the risk

It is a bit wider a bit further back. this is about 4 inches back.
Getting those Mills enclosed would be the Holy Grail...

Page 28, P51guy posts " Mine arrived today also...You are right it is a huge box. Its the biggest RC box I have ever received in my 30 yrs in this hobby. Of course the wife wasn't too thrilled since she had to bring it into the house[I was at work]. For all you guys out there wondering about the .55AX fit ......well they fit fine in the Nacelle with at least .25 of an inch to spare. "

GUY'S this is a well thought out ARF!!! You can slap it together and go flying in 20 hrs. or take your time and add all the scale stuff you want..Today we figured out how to do the nose gear doors (3 pc.) The retractable step was easy!! Not to mention the 1/4 turn fastners to hold the cowlings on. !!!

Dick,

I missed the part about the nacelles having to be installed perfectly straight. If the 90's won't fit without cutting the nacelles I'll use the 50 Sx's. Hell I'm gonna hate making needle valve access holes in the nacelles, never mind cutting cylinder holes!

This thing is really gorgeous. Even my wife thought it was "Pretty".

It seems that the Saito 100T is just a little smaller that the 90T and might be a better candidate for stuffing into the nacels. The 100t weighs in at 820G (1.81 lbs) x2 for both or 3.62 lbs The OS 55AX is 404g (14.3 oz) so they would be just under 2 lbs or the pair. I bring this up because of the already high wing loading on this plane.

If it could handle the twins, I in on it....

Chasman,

The reason I wanted to go with the 90's is "I have them" and, I thought the Bisson mufflers on the .50SX might be a little on the noisy side for our field.

I took one of the .90's off of a plane last night, unfortunately it was after I had repacked the Cessna parts, the mounting arrangement looks too wide for the firewall. I'll have to dig out the parts tonight and do some measuring.

I'm really going to be hesitant about cutting up those nacelles!

Bob,
What are you worried about ,Your acting like it took you a long time to get your plane and thinking that it would take forever to get parts for it . What's up with that.[sm=72_72.gif][sm=71_71.gif][sm=tongue_smile.gif].

Allen,

I'm not worried, just a little hesitant. I don't want to put the holes in then find out I can't make the engine fit anyway. Replacements are $54.00 each.[sm=eek.gif]

I have had multiple problems on when something would ship from Robart. Since then I have been buying all of my Robart parts from Dreamworks Model Products in Fla. They are great.

Dr.,

I hear you ,when dick talked about the tee's leaking the light went on . now I know why the rest of mine leak so I ordered form McMaster's as well and ordered enough to fix all of them.

Allen

Robart won't like me this morning for i will be calling them and telling them that they promised 5 day turn around and i don't have them but yet when someone walks in with a set they turn around and just give him a different set. I see a problem here[:@][sm=punching.gif]

Geez Allen! Have you been talking with members of my club?

I get falsely accused of that (having money) all the time.

Like I tell them, "I used to have money, now I have this hobby"!

Give Robart Hell for me when you call them too!

Bob,
Just got off the phone with Robart and they are saying that they are not returning them in 5 days, that they will be in there shop for 5 days,I told them that it was not good customer service to let some one off the street walk in and exchange them and make evryone else wait on theirs. I'am now calling tower to give them a peice of my mind as well for thier letter said 5 day turn around. My problem is by the time I'm done giving everyone a piece of my mind there won't be any left for me.[sm=punching.gif][sm=angry_smile.gif][sm=48_48.gif]

Is adequate power or cowl appearance more important?
