I will definately be replacing the 46 FXs with 55s one day. Top Flite said it only needed 46s and thats what I had so I went with it The 46s have nothing to spare...you're right.

I have the current .46's, I think they are AX's aren't they ? I made the first flight with Master Air Screw 12x6 props and it was pretty sluggish, plus the temperature was in the 90's. I now use Master Airscrew 12x5 and it flys very scale like ( its by no means a rocket ship).
When I say it flys great I dont for a second think it will fly on one engine and it has very limited vertical performance with two engines but it does fly very scale like. It takes a relativly long takeoff roll and even then it doesnt leap into the air but rather lifts off and climbs out gently. It does nice rolls and will do a very nice decent sized loop if I dive a bit to get some extra airspeed, even if I dont dive I can make an ok loop.
I think for its size and weight it flys remarkably well on two .46 engines. Most guys are really impressed that two such small engines will fly a 20lb airplane that well.

Turnburn....you may be overpropped....
I have not flown my 310, yet, but I have several twins that have the 46AX's. I turn 11X5's at 11,500RPM.
The 12" props may be a bit much for the 46's and are not turning up enough...

I agree, it would be interesting to see what RPM's you are pulling with the 12" props. I would like to see 11,000 to 12,000 on the ground.

I stand corrected. I have 11x5 master airscrew props. I turn up approx 12,000 on the ground with these props. I am now not sure but I think I made the very first flight with 12x5.
I am not over propped with the 11x5. I was NOT complaining about the performance of the airplane or the engines. Quite the opposite, I think it flys just fine with .46's and 11x5 props.

Bo is right on with this. I fly mine 2x .55AX with 11x7 APC props. I top end around 11200. I've since leaned it out because the weather is getting cooler in the northeast, but she flys great with the 55's and 11x7's. So whats the concensus on replacement aluminum wheels? How many people use brakes.?

Bo: do you have more information? Which exact wheels/tires do you use? I checked the Dreamworks site, but I see no mention of intairco T33 wheels. (?)

Anybody flying with 70 4 strokes? I have a B-17 to build thought this would be a good plane to run 4 of them in on, and have fun doing it. I know they are gonna probably stick out a little, but most all my planes have a shade hangin out anyway. Blue Skies, RD

Hi All,
I just put in the order for the Cessna 310.... I have not yet read this forum, but I will.
Can someone let me know what items I'll need besides the retracts and motors?
I'm thinking about using the OS 46 AX, but I haven't yet purchased them. I have 2 slightly used OS 70 four strokers, too, but I read on the Tower site that they will not fit without really killing the cowls... so, is the 45AX's going to make it FAST, or just flyable? Should I go with the OS 55 AX instead?
Also - what servos are suggested?
I will read backwards, but I'd love to hear what everyone likes/dislikes now that the plane has been out for a while.
Also - is there a build thread (show me the links) or any other threads I should read after this one?
Thanks all!
Mark

Read the thread from the beginning, all of the details are in here. 46's will fly it but just bareley, go for the 55's. I have the 50's in mine.

I disagree that 46's will just barely fly it.
Read my review of the 310 w/two 46's
You can see in the video that those engines pull it nicely

I have a 55AX in my nitro bobcat, and it is a great motor...it's another hundred bucks, but I don't want to say "I should've..."....
I wasn't able to see the videos, but I'm reading away... thanks....probably lots of questions when I build. Thanks in advance

It's not that the 46's won't fly it, they do. But there is nothing extra. Even my 50's are ok but they don't haul it around with authority. I have seen the 55's and that is exactly what I said, I should've. You can't get anymore when there isn't any but you can throttle back when there is too much!!!

RC - I feel the same way, and already changed the order to the 55's. That's what I have in the Bobcat, and I"m using 30% heli fuel with a Jett pipe and turning about 14,500 with an 11x8 pusher. It's STRONG. So hopefully, I'll go fast!

So I spoke with one of the guys at the field today - nice fun fly - probably 100+ planes out there today! Anyway, he's got the plane on the table and says it's a LOT of work...but I'm used to building my own, so how bad can it be?
Can't wait to get it -- hopefully I'll start building on Turkey-day!

Has someone lately ordered TRIM wheels to Great Northern Models and how was that?
http://s43500.sites99.storefront-hos...?categoryid=34
I have ordered them almost two months ago and not yet recieved them.
I emailed several times, but they(he) replied two times saying he was cofirming my
order was available and there is no answer lately to my query.
I'm tired of waiting and looking for another shop that has them in stock.

Hi guys,
I'm only to Page 13 in reading this thread so far...and I'm totally unsure of what motor to get. Will the 55 AX fit in the cowl or not?
Please reply quickly, as I will have to call the HS and stop him from ordering the 55's if they don't fit.
I have 2 OS 70 FS's at home pretty new, broken in and reliable, but I didn't want to cut the cowl. If I have to cut for the 55's and the 46's will not leave me with a lot of reserve power, then I need to make some quick decisions...
Suggestions (from people who have the plane and have flown it regularly, please).
That BillS guy sounds like a jerk in the early stages of this thread...can't wait to continue reading...better than a good book or RC Club meeting!
Thanks everyone,
Mark

Mark, I felt the same way you do. I really wanted to go with two OS 70s, but didn't want to cut the cowls. Since I was doing a review, I like to stick with the recommended engines, so I went with 46's
From what I understand, the 55 WILL fit in the cowl. So if you have them on order, good.
