Thinking of building a twin this winter, Came across a device called Twin-sync.
Do you know anything about this device? Reading is called for installing a magnet on the back of the spinner backplate..would this create a balancing problem?

halflight,
I highly recommend this device. I love how it syncs the engines, nothing better than that sound. On the balancing issue, ALWAYS recheck the balance of your spinner to ensure minimal vibrations. If you are worried about a balance issue, you can always install a second magnet opposite the first.

I have two of them! one for my B25, and one spare, link below RC, find the first page "when there" if you want to know the history development of this unit.

I am retro fitting a twin with the Twinsync and have been very impressed with the thought that was given to the design. The magnet weighs almost nothing, is smaller than a 2-56 nut, and it is believed balance will not be affected. Frankly I don’t have the wherewithal to balance a spinner for a minor change. However another method of sensing rpm would be more convenient from an installation standpoint.

To get a bit technical here (I know nothing about this unit) an MPU (magnetic pick up) is more than good enough for this unit and a very small magnet should not greatly effect balance esp if located near the center, If the compasition and engine allow it you might be able to place the magnet on the washer between the spinner and the engine (I don't know what it is called), it is posible to use a OPU (optical pick up) this is triggered by IR reflective tape. However standard OPU's don't sense that fast AFAIK, there is a high speed OPU, but I can not remember its specs, and its price would buy you about 10 of the twin sync units, for just one OPU.
