Default Twin 92” WS, engine decision.

I just realized that this is probably a better place for my post.

Hi, I recently purchased an approximately 19.5% P-68 from a local builder. It was a scratch build so I have no manuals or plans for it.

I talked to the guy that built it and he ran two Tower Hobbies .75 Engines in it, and he said it was more than enough power for the plane. And he wouldn’t run it at full throttle with that set up.

He also told me that if one of the motors dies than I need to throttle down pretty quick in order to keep the plane form going into a spin. This has me a little nervous, especially since it might be hard to hear a motor go out with all of the other air traffic at my field.

Thus I am starting to look into 4-strokes for better reliability.

The only four stroke that really fits my price range is the Magnum XL-91RFS 4-Stroke that goes for $150.00 at TH.

I can’t find power ratings for that motor but when I look at similar motors hp ratings they compare to a .46 two stroke so I don’t really know what to think.

I’d appreciate some educating. As I don’t know much about 4-strokes. In fact my only experience with a four stroke was a Saito 30 in a GP “Sturdy Birdie” Airplane, and I had a terrible time getting it to fly, it just didn’t put out enough power and im scared of running into that problem again.

My plan for this plane is to do some aerial video with a camcorder attached to the top which will add some drag and weight. Later on I might do bomb bay doors, glider towing, and other cool stuff so I need the plane to be a little overpowered and able to handle payloads and extra drag.

The specs:

Scratch built Partenavia P-68
flaps
92” Wing Span
71” Long
16-17lbs all up weight
