I have the 72in version, which seems the same plan but reduced in size. The same happens to me , it seems a bit complex especially some fuselage parts. To make it even worse i will try to install retracts. so if anybody have plans , drawings , data for the landing gear would be very welcome. I will post images once I have something to show.

Hello,
I have a 100" Cat with retracts like tho original one have. See pictures. I have a drawing but cannot minimize the plan. Sorry.
The model is from a Lech Podgorsky-kit, made in Poland.
My model is only to use on concrete not on water. See video: "Catalina - details, engine starting and flying" (you tube)

I, too, have a set of the plans from Fred. After looking at them - and seeing his plane at his home - I decided to go with the kit from Bill Price at http://www.rcairplane.net/index0.html. Here's a couple of pictures of the 108" PBN - better water handling than the PBY - from Bill's kit.

i intend to go only for a land bird so water handling is not a issue. Have written to bill a couple of times but no reply on the same. Further the reviews of the same on rcu itself are not very encouraging

none the less thanks for the same

will appreciate any more feedback

regards

NewC,

Thanks for the link to RCAirplane.net. Until now, I thought the only kit available was at www.precisioncutkits.com.

Hello
I have a 108" pby under construction. Would landing gear plans be available for sale? I have a mock-up working on the bench now and will proceed to build it if I can't find what I'm looking for. I like the gear on your aircraft. The servo actuation is the way I want to go.

I also have the plans to the Vintage PBY5-A, and depending on when you purchased them
from Fred Novak, the only so called defect in the plans is the "Center of Gravity" (CG) or
balance point. If it has been within the last 3-4 years it is correct on the plans. The only other
issue that I have heard of on the PBY is that the step in the hull may be a little too far forward
for a clean break off the water, but I don't have a 3-view to verify the accuracy of the placement
of the step, but overall I believe the plans by Sid Morgan to be very close to scale outline.

Keep us posted on this monster that you are intending to build, I for one would love to follow
your progress. My PBY is still a ways down the road, got to many other projects ahead of it.

the cd as per the new plans is 100 % bang on
had i gone by the old cg would have totalled her by now

another comment that i have on the plan is the tail section needs a lot of reenforcement in terms of glassing or tubes etc
i have personally used carbon tubes in the tail

Yea!!!! thanks for yours interested...
Will be done ... but might need the most 'information as possible, and perhaps recommendations for the creation ... because even with the original plans of the PBY-5A, I can not do much reliance on them. I do not have enough information to assess the correct size of the original in all its parts. I'm still waiting for a model in scale 1 / 48 in plastic open to proceed with the project. but for now I am entrusting you have plans NOVAK. but as previously said they would like to not run properly not in the usual problems .... this realized and also be able to give others a basis on which to work.
P.S this is an old pic to my Project...

Beautiful shot of her coming low over the lawn, what engines are you powering her with.

bill powering her with two 75 ax using 3 bladed zinger props 12 x8 if i remember correctly
retracts are by cjm since i use her for land flying only paid top $ for a top product
bill may not agree with you completely on the step up of the hull
the power is a way over kill. if built correctly she can even fly with two 55 ax engines with power to spare
i say this since the paln was a 70's design and engines their power and fuels and lubricants have come a long wat since then

just to say havea twin sync installed on every one of my multi engined models !! worth every cent that you pay for the product specially with the kind of product support that is available

due to the length of the leads from the receiver have usea a power box on board may be a over kill but didnt want to take a change with 108 " span and the rudder and elevator servos mounted in the tail

futaba 3010 on the ailerons std 148 2 nos for throttle 148 also for retracts futab 3010 for ground steering 9602 for the elevatror twin sync futaba 350 gyro on the rudder

had to put in 1lb+ nose weight did that with 4200 ( sub c ) and 2500 mah battery packs in the nose

she will take off in less than 100 feet from tarmac at 60-7-% power with not too much tendency for a tail slide

in the air flying her at 25% power or less for scale speeds !! landings have to flat and slighly hot since there are no flaps and at 28-29 lbs she can tend to drop like a rock
do be carefull on your tank selection since the only one i managed to but in were sullivan 12 oz flexi tanks

another thing pl doubly re enfpre the struts and thieir mounting blocks since they are structural in nature and take a lot of the flex out of the wing

be happy to answer any more queries since most of the work that i had to do had a lot of debate and mental barn storming !!!

just my 2 bits
