Xplane Unveiled
1 Attachment(s)
The unveiling of my newest twin, the Xplane. Major construction is complete but still needs filler, final sanding and fit checks before covering. All components will be installed and balance check also performed prior to covering.
The Xplane will be powered by 2 TT Pro .46s and uses Rhom retracts (had them just sitting on the shelf gathering dust, so why not use them) and flaps. Specs: Wingspan 68.75", Wing Area 752 sq. in. Wing Anhedral 2.5 degrees Wing Incidence; Root +0.5 degrees, Tip -1.5 degrees LE sweep 21.5 degrees Length 58.5" HStab Dihederal 5 degrees HStab Incidence 0 degrees HStab LE Sweep 25.5 degrees Weight; As shown 3 lbs. 2 oz. Projected finished weight 7-9 lbs. Jim |

RE: Xplane Unveiled
Nice work, Jim.
Now you just need to draw up some plans and sell them to the public. Love Alamogordo...lived there in the late 70s, flew RC out by King One on base and by the cemetery in town. Don |
RE: Xplane Unveiled

RE: Xplane Unveiled
...i have been modeling for over 50 years and that is one of the most beautiful airframes i have ever seen...kinda a cross between a Duelist and a B-58 Hustler...and the craftsmanship is spectacular....congrats!

RE: Xplane Unveiled
that's looks pretty damn cool and something tells me this thing is going to be fast!!! its got speed written all over it!

RE: Xplane Unveiled
Very Kewl. Why is it a prop jet that looks neat(example, Patriot) doesn't seem to detract from the fact that it is a propeller driven jet design?

Engines, fuel tanks, radio and retracts have been temp installed. Weight as shown is now 7 lbs. 14 oz. Initial balance check shows that I will have to add 3 to 4 ounces of weight to the tail. The Xplane will use a remote glow attachment. The plug and switch (to select left or right engine) are located just forward of the nose gear.

RE: Xplane Unveiled
Oh Jim what have you done, that is the neatest twin I've seen in a while,
A swept wing version of the Gemini 40 GT maybe...........The plot thickens......... Excelent craftamanship as usual......... BD |
RE: Xplane Unveiled
Makes me think about bashing a Patriot XL.

RE: Xplane Unveiled
Here is a url on youtube for a twin engine patriot with rockets added circa 2009. (40 Great Planes Patriot modified with twin OS .55 engines, and twin Estes E94 rocket engines) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3uOT...yer_detailpage
The Patriot is a fast airplane even with one engine. The xplane is a beautiful and has features of the Patriot and a pattern design. Would be interested to see it fly. Henry |
RE: Xplane Unveiled
Not the B58, but somewhat similar to the EB-66. It would only need to have the wing shoulder mounted and the jets on pylons. But, it is a beautiful aircraft. Would love to buy plans for it.
