RE: Twinstar Modifications Thread
Landings without flaps are hot so I am cosnidering doing FLAPS on mine also in order to slowit down a bit.... I've been toying with the retract idea too. My covering is starting to peel and shred, so I may stip it and see what I can do...... |

RE: Twinstar Modifications Thread
Well, here is the update!
I took the plane out for the second time. The first time was just after I built it. On the first flight the engines sounded pretty good and pretty strong. The starboard engine didn't run as well as the port. On roll out it was pretty good, and after about 10 seconds after takeoff the starboard engine quit. Well turned into the running engine and landed. I went back and worked and worked on the starboard engine and I finally thought I had the engine running ok. On the second flight, the plane took off and kept climbing. I put in a lot of down trim and of course the same engine cut out. I flew around a bit and noticed the plane flew great on the port engine. I landed the plane without a problem and then I notices that the flap switch had been moved. Here is what I learned today. 1) Plane runs well on one engine 2) Flaps work really well, will need to put in some down elevator 3) The second engine is really a pain in the butt. 4) Probably will keep her now that she has been airborne. Thanks to all of you have have been following this thread. Next thing for me to do is get the second engine working!!!!. DD |
RE: Twinstar Modifications Thread
i have a stock twinstar with a pair of os 40 surpass 4 strokes-flys excellent, lots of power but will fly nicely at 1/2-3/4 throttle, get 7 minute flights, runs excellent one 1 engine and lands like a dream, cut throttle and glide her in

RE: Twinstar Modifications Thread
Update!
Well, I sent the poor running engine back to Ace and they fixed it. Seem as though there was a score on the inside piston, maybe from some metal left during the manufacturing process. They put in new bearings, piston, sleave and carb. The engine runs really well, just trying to get it dialed in and broken in. I flew the plane yesterday and it flew pretty well, except for it kept climbing and turning to the left. I think I know why the Twin was turning to the left. I believe that the right wing is producing more lift than the left wing based on the flaps not being setup correctly. I checked the lateral balance and it is ok. I plan on working on that tonight. The plane flys like a bat out of hell. I flew it around 1/2 to 2/3 yesterday and it flew like a scalded dog! It will take my probably about 10 - 15 flights to get everything sorted out but when I do, it will be a fun plane to fly. DD |
