RE: modifying a trainer to twin
nice use of some old wood!
Questions: when you cut in the pods for the engines - did you end up with a longer wing or just cut out '1 bay'? how much tail weight did you need to get a good cg? any thought to a foam nose? or maybe a single ply of glass to cut weight? any thought to rotating the engines about 45 degrees (space allowing) and get the mufflers tucked under the wing? Comments: Fantastic job! Great color choices on the covering So how does she fly??!! |
RE: modifying a trainer to twin
ooh, looks pretty good :) may have to try that when i outgrow my trainer...
what does it fly like and what engines you using? |

If you don't want to build up a new nose the Twinstar fiberglass nose works on the Tower/ Hobbico Trainer....

that takes some balls - 4 engines held with rubber bands!![X(]
Nice mod! |
RE: modifying a trainer to twin
Hi
1. I left the wing at its original size. 2. since the engines are located near the CG point no extra tail weight was needed. 3. The engines are two old supertiger 0.40 that i had. 4. She flys great , very fast and the sound is amazing. |

What a neat project!! Coverting it to low wing was a nice touch, although it involved a lot more work on your part. It looks great!!

Man, you work fast! (that is if the dates in the pictures are right) Very impressive and nice work!

If you make the front end pointy most guys will land & give you the air space;)

I like the space needle approach and attitude Scote! I always wondered how to get more stick time - now I know! |
RE: modifying a trainer to twin

RE: modifying a trainer to twin
Ultra Sticky has OS 46AX's with 11 x 7 APC props....This plane was resurected from a one month old ultra stick 60 arf kit that was nosed in on its 7 th flight....this is my third year flying it---It always gets a lot of attention when I bring it to the field---3D twin[8D]

:D
I am sure it gets a lot of attention You have one hell of a spear on its nose. :D:D:D |
RE: modifying a trainer to twin
Recently I the replaced the "spear" with a removable nose---A 9" tip off an old fishing rod/with eyelet on the end....the plane is no longer nicknamed the flying lawn dart:):)
