Kavan Brake battery options

Has anyone had any experience using a 11.1 volt pack on the kavan brakes? I am working on a Art Johnson P-38 and would like to utilize these brakes, however weight is starting to creep up there and would really like to use a lighter battery. I emailed sig, and I seemed to get the canned answer, has anyone out there tried the higher voltage packs?

RE: Kavan Brake battery options

I have used the Kavan brake but only on 7.2 volts from the ECU pack of a turbine model. Like you I did not want to carry yet another battery just for the brake.

Have you considered using a voltage regulator just for the brake if you are worried about burning it out?

I used one on my B-36, I did not want to risk draining my reciever pack if my servo driven retracts went horribly wrong so I tapped off the flight packs with a 5 volt regulator. It works perfectly & weighs next to nothing.

The Kavan brake is quite heavy & bulky, have you considered a pneumatic brake system, common on turbine jets?
These are very light & work well. Unfortunately, like it seems with everything associated with turbines, the biggest weight reduction will be to your wallet! [sm=lol.gif]- John.
