I know that spectrum makes a sensor for a rev limiter that you can mount on the back of the engine. Also most newer engines have a magnet in the crank shaft. Do you know of a radio system that can use two channels and rev limiter sensors to sync engines through the curve? Although it would seem like a lot of work to transmit back and forth to do that... just a thought.... The one feature I like about the synch is if one motor dies, the sync throtles back the running motor to idle to minimize control loss. So in reality I was contaplating the sync system and a rudder gyro to minimize spiral nose plants if an engine fails..... |

You have all the same questions and thoughts I've been going through - laughing... I also looked at the spektrum technology, but it is only set up to monitor RPM on one engine. However, Airtronics can monitor twins. I was not even thinking about using any limiter function. If the Twin-Sync has the feature to reduce the running engine, if you can monitor the RPM without the separate magnet (using the back of the engine) that may be a great option. I am also planning a gyro for the tail... Mostly to help with take off. Looking at dual-rate, non heading-hold gyros that I can have a higher rate for take off and switch to a low rate for flight. The trick was matching the power system between 2.4 (which wants a higher voltage) to a gyro. I'm planning on using the Century PG2000R gyro that is dual rate and rated up to 7 volts. I didn't want a 4.8-volt heading hold gyro to just make matters worse for this project. I have a bunch of books for documentation and picked my topic for making the DC-3 a scale C-53. Next, I need to make a list of the servos I want to run throughout the plane and work out how I'm going to run the Robart retracts (air, servo, or electric retro-fit)... Where did you get your documentation? And is it only for the C53? There's a guy www.rcdon.com that has a nice write up and video of a TF DC-3 as C-47 build, and I read onother thread on RCU that someone wants to build the turbo conversion with 2 WRENturbo props ... that thing would be a rocket... |

Those marking choices look cool.. This project is going to be a learning process for me.
I have found references on the acution sites and at the air museum. The best two I have are: "C-47 Skytrain in Action" and "C-47/RD4 Units of the ETO and MTO".. Good history of all the different varients. I also have "Sixty Glorious Years, A tribute to the Douglas DC-3 Dakota" and "Gunships, A pictorial History of Spooky." One of my choices was to model the "Puff" gunship. But found a local plane that I could document and photograph. I saw the RCDon site, he had some good photos of his build... I'm still looking at options for my build and will probably start putting sticks on the board in a cople of months.. After I get my Skyraider updated with a few mods I can get moving on the DC3 |

Hi!
If you want a civil variant of the DC-3 I can recommend using Oracover Chrome! I used it on my Marutaka DC-3, but first I wet sanded each strip of plastic, using 1200 paper, on a piece of glass to get that alumium look. Must mention that I first covered the fuselage with 24 hour epoxy and 25g glassfiber before covering with strips of Oracover. Power is two OS FS.26 engines. |

OK guys, the conversion to E/P ... some say to keep the thrust angles in and others say no need for them... What is the general consensus ????:eek:
