Snow scooter....Home made!
Here is a snow scooter may friend and I built. It has the parkzone typhoon motor and gear reduction unit, a servo for the front steering unit and a 3 cell lipo. This is the maiden run of it. We need to reprop it yet. WHat do you's think?

Well we put the typhoon prop on it and WOW! It hits 60mph in a snap of the fingers. Now we are working on another one that can handle the speeds. The new one is going to be 36" long. I want to build it with suspension too! This is going to be a fun project.

Well it took a lot longer than I thought but I got another one in the works. Using a OS .46 AX for power. I took the mount off of an old vortex airboat I had in a pile of unused bs laying around. Planning to use a single front ski mounted on a front steer airplane lg. Similar to the first one. Still have lots to do but here are a few pics.
Kevin
P.S. It is 4 feet long and 1 foot wide.

That's cool! I made one about 10 years ago with my K&B .45 out of wood and had a large basswood air rudder. It also had three skis but was more triangular and wider. I made another a few years ago using my 0.S. .46 out of channel aluminum but it didn't turn out so well. I should make another!

Any pics of it? Would love to see some if you do. I was wondering how a tri-float set up would work...kind of make a water bug of sorts...

No, unfortunately I don't have pics. I used the Great Planes skis and also used wheels on them both. The snow was more fun because on asphalt it was too fast and too unstable. I didn't use it on the water but I could have converted to floats. Hmmm...
I'll let you know if I make another one!

Please do. I am off to the lhs to see Bob right now. He is drawing up some ski's for me. I want to build some that ar eabout 6"x16" so this thing stays on top of the powder. Planning to use balsa then glass the bottom of them. I like the "wood" look. I don't think I will be painting this one. I have a bunch of 1/32 black walnut I plan to use strips of to decorate it. Just wish I could come up with a good plan for suspension...been pondering it for a while now. Came up with a few ideas but they are kind of hokey...

Well he drew up a winner on the first try so I went with it. Man you gotta love friends like him. Here is the pic of what it looks like now. Will be mounting the block in center top and then 3 strips underneith for turning and tracking.

Here is the front ski...working.
Kevin
Here is what it will kind of look like. I just cut the top ply and set it on to make sure I cut it big enough to leave for sanding. I am still planning to laminate with 1/32" black walnut in stripes maybe?

Well it is near done. Just cut the rear ski's out and am ready to glue them up. These pics show the lights I added since winter is very dark here. Added led's for head and tail lights and glo wire around the front.

Please check out my entry on page 4 of this section under RC SNOWBUGGY. I have been building these for close to 30 years and normally run them on a frozen, snow-covered lake. I have made them with .15 sized engine, .21 sized engines and .40 sized engines. All of these are along the design that you see in the picture. The one in the picture has a .15 engine is is quite mild in its performance. Right now, I'm running a .21 that is extremely fast. Unfortunately, right now our snow is about 2-2 1/2 feet deep and running it,if it should flip over, kind of difficult to chase down.
