I've got a new OS160 waiting for an ARF. Any suggestions on a good extra, giles etc to try?

My vote would be a World Models 80 inch Extra - it is designed around the OS160 so cowl fit etc. is spot on. I have been flying one this past year and am very pleased with the performance. Model will hover at just over half throttle and has spare power to pull out. The ARTF is also very good quality and in my opinion very good value for money.

Hi,

One of the fellows in my club has the WM80" extra described by kmorgan. I would have to second this vote as the model flys very well and appears to be exceptionally well built for an ARF.

Seems a pity to put such a nice motor in any ARF though!

You might also look into the Great Planes Soucy Extra. It seems to be made for the 160.

as i had a goldberg 120 sukhoi kit with a 120 webra which was the best flying plane i have had in 20 years of this hobby,the only thing n it needed was a hair more engine, the new sukhoi arf would be the match for the os 160. also it gets away from all the extras out there,somthing a little dif.there is a talk on this plane on rc here somewere.

Mathman hit the nail squarely on the head. I just bought a Gene Soucy Extra 300S for $299.00, got a $30.00 discount deal, and haven't looked back. That engine, with a 1250 Nimh battery in the tail (hatch provided for this) balanced perfectly. I used Futaba 3010's on the elevator halves, Hitech 5645 for the rudder and Futaba digital 3050's on the ailerons. It weighs 12 pounds, 4 ounces dry. With an APC 18X6 prop (provided GP aluminum spinner fits perfect), it rocks!!! The recommended elevator rates are way too small. Had trouble landing it on high rates, ran out of elevator. So make the instruction high rates, your low rate, and add 1/8 to 1/4 inch more for the high rates and it will work perfect. It has unlimited (rocketing) vertical, flies straighter (and better) than my Giles, and lands (when you correct the low elevator throw problem) like a butterfly.

Anybody interested in a GP 1/4 scale Giles, it has definetly been replaced!!!

How about considering the Wildhare Edge 1.20 size 540T?? I'm hearing that it is just dynamite with an OS 160 FX. I just ordered one, and plan on installing a YS 110FZ as that is what I have available. If this engine does not produde enough power, who knows[sm=confused.gif]?? I have only heard that the 160FX in some cases requires a fuel pump and one side of a pitts muffler blocked off to run correctly in many applications such as the GP Soucy Extra. Any feedback would be appreciated as I am considering the OS if the YS doesn't cut the mustard.

What have you heard about using the Cline regulator vs the Perry?? I just happen to have a Cline on the shelf.

not much of any thing between the two i just know hoe to use the Perry pump

the reason people block a stack is to increase back pressure i would never do as any thing more than a one day fix at the field one of the other things you could do besides block a stack is to put a one way check valve on the muffler pressure line to the tank so the pressure doesn't instantly leak back out the muffle line when you go to idle

or use the pump and the people on line here that have use the Cline like them as well as the people that have used the Perry pump IMO either one would be fine
