VPP or PPS
Interesting choice here, either the VPP from Hobby Lobby or the PPS from OMP. It seems that OMP has a better motor or so they claim, however, there are nto thrust or RPM figures for it. Has any one got the info for this motor? Also, which would be a better buy in terms of performance and reliability and after sales service? all opinions and suggestion are welcomed, as the info will be very helpful
Thanks |
RE: VPP or PPS
Check the OMP Site again, they have stats. for the motor up.

RE: VPP or PPS
if you check the blurb, it says something like 'wound to give 30% more power'? although the specs are the same as the AXI motor that it is, they just say you can use 2 OR 3 cells, where as AXI say 2. ( Graupner also do the same motor in black, woohoo. ) i believe the 30% more power bit, is refering to 30% more than the stock brushed setup. i got the conversion kit today, the new motor shaft is actually plastic tube, like white ABS, not wot i expected. also, i snapped both of the shaft retaining screws ( the ones the props O ring goes round in fixed pitch form ) trying to unscrew them !!! and yes, i used a soldering iron ( 70 watt ) to heat them up, it all got too hot to hold and the loctite? still would rather i snapped the screws than let go. Doh. anyways, i drilled them out and ran a 3mm tap through the holes and have got capheads ready for the rebuild. i hoped to purchase some of the steel tube that is linked to in the build your own vpp thread, they only ship international using FEDEX, $75 2 day, or $65 normal, for a $6 item. i don't think so, but in fairness, they were most helpful on the phone and i accept policy is policy. IF, anybody in europe knows of a source for a similar product? please drop me a pm or post a link for all to use. i may just order the 220834 with hollow shaft from hobbylobby when it comes available. cest la vie.

RE: VPP or PPS
The PPS looks better. Go with OMP.

RE: VPP or PPS
thats the one i got, the Ikarus one.

RE: VPP or PPS
seems the plastic tube may not be the motor shaft, i have now got the pukka red axi with the hollow shaft from ikarus and it is a steel shaft.

RE: VPP or PPS
a few more retractions folks. the red ikarus motor is not an axi 220454!!, it is similar though. the hub that a fixed pitch prop would be fitted to is around 4mm further forward from the rotor than the 220454. also, it is a 5mm long motor, it would be in axi terms a 2205?? ( question marks because the wind is a mystery ) . so, in conclusion, this motor may well have 30% more oomph than the little axi that it looks like.

RE: VPP or PPS
Hi guys,
The VPP from HL is really poor about quality, I just received mine, and I don“t like it. I never see the PPS from Ikarus, but in the pics looks like a much better product. Sorry for my english. Gaston Argentina |
RE: VPP or PPS
the pitch slider arrangement from ikarus is good, it has 2 flanged ballraces on the slider. i think the ikarus hub system with the hobbylobby 220834 would be the dogs.

i believe the 30% more power bit, is refering to 30% more than the stock brushed setup. |
RE: VPP or PPS
SO how does the OMP compare to the 2208/34?
