M-46 conversion kit

There's a new conversion kit being considered for converting the M-26 to M-46. I am eagerly awaitng this kit and will pick up at least two. They wil cost about $125. The M-46 is a highly modified Pershing and a milestone in tank engine developement. Outside of the 90mm gun improvements and additional gunner's telescope, the V-12 AV-1790 engine and Allison CD-850 transmission were used in all US tanks from the 46, 47, 48 series and M-60 with the M-48A5 and M-60 being converted to diesel. The M-46 was used only in korea and proved to be a very fine, tough tank. They were equipped with steel combat track but a few did have the T-84 rubber block tracks. A lot of kits feature the tiger face, but this was only used in two operations in April-May 1951. Some M-26s have been painted with tiger colors but this is totally incorrect, as none of the units involved had Pershings...only M-4A3E8 Sherman, M-24 Chafee and M-46 Patton. There was also an M-46A1 but these had only internal modifications as relocation of drivers instrument panel from between the driver and bow gunner to the driver's right side and the M-46 was the last tank to have dual drive, where the bow gunner also had driving controls. Only a little over 200 M-46 Pattons were used in korea but they dealt with anything North korea and Chinese could throw at them with most being lost to mines.
A very good web site is WWW:Patton-Mania.com. it has a wealth of info on the Pershing through all Patton models.
I hope this kit comes out soon. It will make the Pershing design tank tougher and faster in the M-46 form and allow the tiger face to be used on an original idea.

[email protected]. Have been in contact with Jeff and Joel on this since Dana sent me the heads-up and provided the contact. Thanks Dana! I just sent them some photos from my tank co in Korea as they requested, so they can get some accurate markings and add'l info.
You might want to send them a note indicating your interest. The whole thing depends on them getting enough interest generated to sink the efffort into the M-46. I also asked them (and sent photos) about thoughts of of conversion kit for M-45. Simple conversion from M-26 and a very interesting tank.
With a kit to make an M-46, I just might give up the big bucks and Buy a Tamiya to convert and mount a mini cam in the tank.
Be dangerous though...if I see T-34s, I may revert back to using live 90mm HVAP.
Lets get some interest out to these guys so they will get it going.

I live right near Joel ( about 10 minutes away ) and saw it first hand. He has been doing really great work on other stuff for years. So believe me, this is nicely done.
