Default SU-76i

Got the conversion kit in from Peter at Modellino and was very happy with the kit. As usual, a bit of filing and cleaning up on the resin
to get things seated right. A major job was removing everything molded or glued to the exterrior that the Russians didn't use.The biggest problem though, was getting the gun to position so that elevation was not affected by the dog house. I took out everything in the turret except the elevating mechanism and got that lined up and working nice. There were a couple hatch door hinges missing in the kit, but the top doors are going to be open and the missing hinges won't be that evident. The rear doors, I will make a couple . I took some photos as I was building and these are of the model about 75% done and checked out to see that everything was still working after I did some elimination and kept only the wires to the elevating mech. I have 3 Russian tankers to put together and place in the vehicle. As far as historic accuracy, there were a number of these converted from captured Pz III's. Some had the flat top like the SU-85 or 100, some had a TC copula from the Pz III and some had top doors configured different....late wartime and they used and field retrofitted as they could, so you are pretty much on your own how you want to modify it. I chose to use the Pz III copula, as I had a couple laying around and the side piece for its use comes with the kit.

Wanted to send more photos, but this web site keeps telling me "file too large" [X(] Can't understand that, as i shoot most of my shots at the same distance, same camera and sometimes i can send 5, sometimes can't do but one.[:'(]

I'll try again.

SU-76i completed except for 3 man crew and decals, which I have yet to find. The kit was pretty nice. I have to get rid of the HL machine gun sound as this vehicle doesn't have one. Anyone have a source for Russian decals. PM me. thanks. Wanted tp add more pics, but I keep getting "file too large" message.[:'(]

Thanks,

I sent Paypal 46.50 Euro. Check out his site, it shows two different versions, I chose the one with TC cupola. Any leads on Russian decals?

You can use 1/48 or 1/32 aircraft decals for any red stars and numbers. Or try a craft store for a star template. Just airbrush red paint on it then peel off. Another option for the star is look in magazines and catalogs till you find a picture of a star in an ad or article. Cut it out and then cut the center of the star out. Instant template!!

Panther, I made a typo on the kit price[X(]...that was for the crew members. The kit is 86 Euro, but worth it.
All I need to do it hit the crew with another dose of Dull Coat. Nice looking and running tank. [8D]

Very, very nice work, Bill! As for "Red Stars"... here's a whole galaxy for you The image is actually from Techmod's 1/48 scale "Russian Aircraft Set 2" decal sheet. I found these at a UK site. modelsforsale.com.

thanks,

I checked a 1;35 scale T-34 kit I have and it had just what I needed. The kit is nice puts a twist on the German Pz III use in the war.
A couple more doses of dull coat on the figures and some field damage and it'll look good.

That is a nice conversion Pattoncommander. Definitely adds something rare and different to a battlefield. You need a short barreled stug next

Man, I have so many axis tanks, I need a few Shermans. [&:] I have a nice Wehrmacht display(17) and now(with the burned one) 4 Russians and Japanese to my meager 4 Pershing variants, a Tam Sherman and 4 1;18 Shermans (with the m-16 1/2 track).
Wish I could get my 75mm Sherman to run a bit...I'd make a Pacific flame tank out of it. [>:] A Stu would be nice and I'm thinking of a conversion to make one. Modellino has one and I am looking at an SU-85.

Waiting for the M-46 conversions to become available. Just got some nice update pics.....VERY NICE!.

Bill
