Amazing pics. Thanks for sharing the link, as these are some of the best pics I have everseen. Panther F you are right, such a huge cost for such a small pretty island. Just caught the episone of "The Pacific" with the IWO battle. Haunting. They did dress up a Sherman with wood armor. Thumbs up.

Yes they did use thick wooden planks on the sides of Shermans like the Germans used schurtzen on their tanks. it causes the anti tank rounds to detonate before reaching the side of the tank. Mide you it wouldn't stop an 88 round but most Japanese rounds it would
