Default possible future plane

Tom

I want to congratulate you on the very impressive line of model that you have been bringing to the hobby.
I am just giving my opinion hear, but I would like for you to consider making a Piper Cub, but not the average 1/4 scale ARF there are to many of this already I was thinking more around 30% size something that you could use the 40cc petrol engines.
The reason for that is that I always wanted a Cub but the 1/4 scale is to small for the new gas engines and I don’t believe no one makes a Cub on that size in ARF, the next size is something like a 1/3 scale that is just to big to carry around and you still don’t get any ARF only in Kit form.
This is just my opinion and something for you to consider for a future plane. If you do that you would be taking control of the 28%-30% ARF model on the market with the 40cc-50cc petrol engine

I appreciate your input, but I have to agree with the other fellow's comment, there are so many cubs on the market that I wonder about the acceptance of yet another one.

Eh? 30% is good, 33% is too big?

Balsa USA has a 33% kit, I'm sure a builder would build it for you. I have the 25% BUSA, covering it now, I think a G23 would fit, and probably work well.

Good luck,

How about a 35% Extra "Special". Easy step from your current set-up as fas as tooling, etc. Guess you'll have to see what the Special vs LX ratio is for the 28% to judge the market. The next easy step after that would be a 35% Edge......just kinda reverse evolution of the 28% sizes.

I'd like to see a Giles about the same size as the 28% Edge or Extra. These sizes allow much easier transport, less expensive engines, etc.

I have to second that.

This smaller size is easier to handle and for us to ship as well, I concur. I had a 3W 31% G202 that was really excellent to fly (although incredibly expensive IMHO).

What I got with our larger Giles was a whole bunch of people who complain that other people's Giles were unstable, so they didn't want to buy ours.

Everyone who bought a Wild Hare Giles and flew it has raved about what a wonderful plane it is. It may be the best flying plane we make. But as long as most people's perception is that the Giles is a snappy unstable plane then what's the point?

That's why we have not sized the G202 downward. This could change, but right now my impression is that most people don't like the Giles.

Tom,
Your post is quite a coincidence.
I was at a swap meet this morning and told of my Wild Hare edge coming in a few days.

The name Wild Hare prompted several people to start raving about your G202, one of the best flying etc, etc.

Yes, it is. But get s few guys together and talk about a Giles G202 without mentioning a brand name and for sure somebody will chime in with "the Giles snaps too easily and tip stalls on landing". OF course they probably never flew a decent plane but opinions are like a.......s, everybody has one.

BTW this characteristic is usually caused by being tail heavy.

Hello Tom,
I wanted to put in my 2 cents also . . . .(whats new !)
How about a 28% - 30% Bipe!
Pitts, Eagle, Ultimate all have been done to death in many scales.
But now a SKYBOLT! Or better yet a SUPER SKYBOLT!
In the 28%-30% scale this would be a nice change at the field.
In a ARF setup, IMHO, would be a great seller.
Like I said, my 2 cents.

I would like to see a good Ultimate for the 50cc class in an ARF. There just aren't any good choices out there right now that meet the typical 3D wantabe's(like me!) weight requirements. Aeroworks has one coming out in April that sure looks good. Based on what I read here, you would do better! Keep us posted on what's in the future for Wildhare so we can make plans.

Noticed that NOBODY makes a 33% Edge ARF?( Except Aeroworks)I guess nobody wants my money because if someone made one for a decent price I would have one. I just think $1000 is too much for one that is 2-3 lbs overweight. Better yet I would like to see a kit of that size. But that is a topic for a different thread. Keep up the good work Tom.

I forgot about the model 12, good subject.
A big good looking Super Skybolt would still get my vote!

How about another aerobat about the size of the Giles 202. Something for the 3W-75, ZDZ-80 and the coming DA-75 in the 90-96" span. Call it 3.7 (G-62) to 4.8 (ZDZ-80). There are also a bunch of 4.2s gathering dust with the trends to bigger stuff. Not much competion with that size verses an increasingly competitive 3.2 market. It's also easier shipping for the importer (Tom) and easier hauling and funding (us!) than the 35% size. There are a few Edges that size, but an Extra would be popular and you won't keep a YAK that size in stock! Of course if it's a bipe, I've always been smitten with a Bucker Jungmeister or a Weeks Solution.....

Another good model . . . . .

But a Super Skybolt, being a streched pitts, would have longer moments for better 3D . . . IMHO
In a ARF with a Wild Hare scheme

Come on guys, the Katana is where it's at. An 84" Katana with the extra amount of wing area that Tom's planes have, would be awesome and much prettier than the Yak.

O.K. I think I will officially vote for the Pitts model 12. It combines the classic radial engine with a high performance bipelane. It is different than the other planes out there, and looks good to boot!

I can see it now, an 84" span Pitts model 12 with a DA-100 in the cowl...
