What size tank are you running for a 50 cc engine in your 28% Edge/Extra???
Guys,
What size tank are you running in your Edge/Extra's??? I have a DA 50 going into the Edge and wondered what size tank would be sufficient for a 10-12 minute flight. 16 oz. do it??? This is my first gas and I do not know at what rate it is going to consume fuel.
Thanks,
Norman Ross Jr.

We sell a 24oz tank with the hardware kit, this is good for 15 minutes plus. There is very little to be saved with a smaller tank.

I like to use 24oz. tanks with my 50cc gassers. 24 ounces is a good compromize between saving weight and having plenty of fuel.

24 0z tank with a ZDZ 50NG , fly for 15 minutes and still have about 1/4 tank left.
This is 15 minutes of mixed 3d flying with a lot of hovering and then going into Imac maneuvers as well.
Its always better to land with some fuel in the tank. Gassers do not let you know when there about to cut out and you will not need to worry about lightening this plane if you go with a 50cc motor.

I am using a 16oz Hayes tank (I made my own harware "kit"). I fly for over 10 minutes and have 1/3 - 1/2 of a tank left (DA-50, 24x8 Menz, Amsoil 100:1 mixed at 80:1). I don't scream around the sky... I like to keep it slow, but I do a lot of harriers and torque rolls etc... As far as what there is to be saved by using a smaller tank... 16 ozs is 8 ozs less than 24 ozs[8D] Not that it matters with this plane, but I thought a miserable attempt to be humerous was fitting.
If I decide I want to fly longer I may switch tanks.

Sillyness,
That is good to know as that is the tank I have. I am going to use a 24x8 Menz asd well and flying slow is what I do. I do some IMAC, but prefer the big props obviously like you. I usually fly just 10 minutes and it sounds like a perfect match for me too. The best as I do not need a new tank as this one will suit my needs perfectly.
Thanks,

RE: What size tank are you running for a 50 cc engine in your 28% Edge/Extra???
Just to throw a little thought into your head. I had a ZDZ 40 on my edge at first with a 16oz tank. I would only fly about 10-11 minutes max as well. Upgraded to a ZDZ 50NG and kept the 16oz in there. At first it was perfect as I would always land with fuel left in the tank.
One day I was having a great day and the plane was flying awesome, I didnt realize as I was getting more familiar with the plane that I was starting to use the throttle a little more aggresively and burning fuel at a much faster rate. I started doing multiple touch and goes and went dead stick right after a go. Needless to say after I spent the weekend fixing the landing block which i knocked out, I went to the hobby store and drop the extra $5 bucks for the bigger tank.
For me the lesson was'nt to hard to learn as I didnt destroy my $1500.00 dollar investment over a measly $5 bucks. But I was lucky.
Dont make the same dum mistake.

I fly a 10X and I use the timer on all my planes and don't need it on my helis as you can see the tank on them. I can tell you how many cranks on the pump it takes to defuel the tank every time if I land right after the timer goes to zero.

FWIW, I've started flying harder with my Extra and my fuel consumption seems to stay about the same... maybe slightly higher. I've still never landed with less than 3/8 tank after 10-12 minutes. It's not that I don't want to spend the $5, it's that I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY like Hayes tank... I've had tanks and gas stoppers from several other makers fail in one way or another, soaking my airframe. 16 oz was the biggest my LHS had, so I use it and it works great, lasts a long time.

Agreed, I have never had a Hayes tank fail in any way.................... That is if we don't count a few extremely high G sudden stops.
I think the 16oz is the largest they make.

I will triple that. A Hayes tank has not place to fail really and I like the molded fittings on one and 16oz. is as big as Hayes go I believe as it was the largest my local hobby shop had. My reasoning for not wanting a larger tank was the same as I wanted to keep the Hayes and to go any larger I would have to go Dubro or etc and I do not like having to bend the tubing for them.
