my friend just bought a Wild Hare Edge, it has an 84 or 86 inch wing span, he is going to mount a Sach 4.2 in it, I told him that I thought this motor was to heavy for it, well he has been flying gasser planes for 17 years and he said he is going to find-out LOL,,,
what do you think, is the motor to heavy for this plane ???

If he tail mounts all the rudder and elevator servos, moves the throttle servo to the middle of the plane, places the flight battery as far back as he can, runs the lightest ignition batter he can find, and doesn't try to beef up the firewall, it can work.
The plane will still be on the heavy side, and will not want to slow down enough to land because of the residual thrust with the bigger prop and the 4.2, but it will work. Perhaps not as well as it could

Take it from someone who has done it. He will NOT LIKE the 4.2 on this plane.
I had one, hated it, sluggish in the snaps. never could get it into a real flat spin, Harriers were a joke, then changed out the engine to a 3.2. ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world. Loved the plane. As Tom and many others will tell you (just do a search) the plane will not take anything larger than a 3.2.

I had a Sachs 4.2 and it wasn't any heavier than a stock zenoah G62. Since that plane is supposed to be designed around that engine why wouldn't the Sachs be ok? I know mine had more power than the G62. Probably no doubt that a good 50cc would be better, but they don't grow on trees!

Not all Sachs 4.2 are alike. They all use the same cyl, piston and crank, but the crankcase, prophub and ign systems can be very different. I just set up a Sachs 4.2 for a friend that was indeed not much heavier than a stock G62. But remember, Tom's prototype flew with a G-62 converted to electronic ign, which is a bit lighter up front while shifting some weight behind the firewall (module + battery).
I am sure you can do it, but a Sach 4.2 is really happier in a 30%+ plane with around 90" wing span, like the Lanier Edge 540.

They are all slightly different, but

Should give you a good idea.

Boy, I've been riding this fence on this subject now for 8 months. I am flying mine with the 3.2 Brison, but have always wondered about the 4.2 combo.
I had a G62, and a 4.2, and my 4.2 was at least 8oz heavier than the G62 w/Spring starters.(RTF). But with servos in the tail, fiberglas gear, carbon tube, and carbon spinner, you may have a good combo that wieghts lighter than a stock WH with G62, and swing serious prop.
Hmmm, on the other hand, stay as light as you can. DA 50 ?

Hey Wayne! i'm flying the WH 300LX with my sach's 4.2 and it flies wonderfully! I can do anything trick i like,it snaps super fast on snaprolls, and the vertical is ABSOLUTELY UNLIMITED at half power. With all the servos in the factory places and main battery pack in the turtle deck by the reciever,it balances right on the money. My ignition pack and box are mounted to the sides of the firewall box and kill switch servo and throttle servos are 2 inches in front of the wing tube on each side of the fuse. i'm swinging a 24/8 Zinger prop on it at 7100 rpms on the ground.
