Try a 23x8 prop. I've had good performace with my DA50 running a NX23x8 (Airwild hobbies) on my AW 29% Edge. DA also sells a couple different 23x8 props, but the cost is a little more. This is the size prop that was recommed to me from Dave at DA

First things first.

For all of those that have been using Zinger and Master Airscrew types of props with 50cc engines, get rid of them!! Stir paint, shim a door frame, whatever, but get rid of them.

When you stepped up to higher performance giant scale planes and gas engines you made a substantial investment in the progress of your abilities. Why is that progress and performance being limited by a poor prop selection? Price? I sure hope not. You invested more than you probably ever had before, so a few bucks more for a good prop should not break the bank. When you moved up to gas engines in this size range and above, you should also move up in prop performance. The difference between a Mejzlik, Menz, NX, BME, MSC, Bolly, Bambula, and other upper level props compared to Zinger and Master Airscrew is like night and day. Avoid the usual plastic type props as well.

You will be in utter amazement when you find out what you have been missing[X(]

I agree with Silversurfer, spend a couple bucks. I like the Mezjlik CF props, either a 22-10 or 24-8.

DA says, 22-10, 23-8, 24-8 for a broke in Engine. I have tried all and I really like the 23-8 Mejlik. I am also using a 23-8 bolly wood and it's nice! I have used the MSC 22-10 and it pulled well too. I tried a 24-8 BME on my planes and it really would pull the plane out of a hover NICE.

I tend to agree with Silversurfer on the ZINGER thing, they suck. Nothing amazes me more than going to a flying field and seeing a great looking plane with a bargin prop on it.

I also got this combo WH Edhr + DA 50,, I broke mine in with a Menz 22x8 prop and after 4 gallons I switched for the NX 23x8,,, and what a difference,,, it will slow down this plane a lot on downlines or for landings!!!!

You will like it,,, i guess and good brand of 23x8 should do pretty good!!!

The smallest Biela I've used is a 28-10. All I can say is that it's better than anything else I've tried on the Giles Brison 6.4 combination. That's been MSC and Menz for comparisons.

I bought my Engine from DA in Dec 05 and it's going to be installed on the WH YAK.

When I spoke to DA I told them this is my first gasser and asked what size prop I needed to break-in the motor?

DA asked how heavy the plane is? I told them 16 lbs and they sold me a CF 23X8 to use for breaking in the motor. After buying the prop I did some research and learned the recommened prop for break-in is a a 22X8 for the DA 50.

So in January, while at the AMA convention in Ontario, Ca I stopped by thier booth and talked to DA. After learning the weight of the YAK, DA responded by saying :because the all up weight of the WH YAK is lighter the most other 18lb + platforms, there is no need to use 22X8 for break in.

Just passing on information....

Regards,

Chuck

Discusmike,
Silver and Tom is right. I had a 22x8 MSC on my BME 50 powered Extra special and I was not impressed I switched to a 22x8 Mejzlik and it was like flying a different plane. I gained over 800 rpm.

A friend has the same plane with a DA 50 using a Mejzlik 23x8 and it flies awsome almost as well as mine with a BME 50.

I have limited knowledge of props for DA50, but I am using a 22x8 Bolly on my 300LX and new DA. It turns 7200+ rpm and seems to accelarate well. I like the higher rpm's.

Any of you guys that are turning from 6900 to the low 7's with the 50cc engines and better props are right where you want to be. After that it's all about down line braking and absolute vertical thrust levels to suit personal preferences.

The MSC 22-8 is a little different beast. It loads down an engine a bit more due to it's blade width and mass. Some engines like them, some don't. My Brison 3.2's love them. OTOH, my Brison 6.4 performs worse, and with lower rpm numbers, using an MSC 26-10 than it does with a Biela 28-10. Just goes to reinforce the position that a little experimentation with props on engines in the same size range can make a big difference in the performance of a given airframe.

I tell ya, the exhaust does make a big difference as well..With the NX 23-8 I tached at 6900 R's with the stock muffler..With a Pitts I only got to 6600 R's..I know my prop tips were singing with the MSC 22-8 and its much quieter with the NX 23-8
