Looking for prop gloves.
I'm looking for those prop gloves/covers to protect those shiny brand-new props. Also, the covers for the tail feathers, all to protect against hanger rash. I've looked on the wingtotes site and searched around. No luck yet.
Any ideas?

RE: Looking for prop gloves.
Here's a cheap solution I saw in one of the RC magazines, and it works just fine for me.
Go to any hardware store and get the foam pipe insulation tubes (these are for copper pipe, I think). I use them on my airplane caddys and cradles. The one I use has a 1" inner diameter, and stretches to fit over a large 22-23" prop with no problem. Plus, it's really inexpensive (I think a package of four 6 foot tubes is around 2-3 dollars).

RE: Looking for prop gloves.
I have a friend who makes EEP foam DSer's....
I plan on buying some EEP foam from him and wrapping the foam in packaging tape to use a custom fit carbon prop/carbon spinner protecctor. I think I'll have to seperate halves and just rubber band them together. It should work well.
I'll find out after I build the YAK
Cheers.

RE: Looking for prop gloves.
P51........I do the same thing on my large props. I cut the pipe insulation just a tad longer then the prop. On my 1.60 OS Engines I use the 18x6 APC Props and these covers will protect your eyes and face when around them also. If the sleeve is a little lose wrap a propre sized rubber band around it. I have also used pipe insulation of various sizes to make boots for the wheels and used them for wheel chocks just to keep the plane from rolling on the floor but not for transporting. I would cut the slot partly through the length and fit the wheels in the slots and than wrap electrical tape around the edge of the slots to prevent the opening from gettin any bigger. It may not look classy but gets the job done. Bill

If you want "fancy" ones TNT landing gear sells them. I got a set for my shiny new Biela prop (since it came from the same place I figured I might as well...)

Though the bunny ears sound funny that could be a wonderful marketing thing to throw in with the hardware packages.

If there is enough of a call for them, I'll talk to my wife about making them. She's real good about that kind of stuff, but for only one or two it wouldn't be worth the time and effort.
Perhaps we could get Tom to post another poll?????????

Silver.......It sounds like a good idea to me. Of course I would have to explain to everyone at the field or where ever the plane went about the bunny ears. If the price is right I would be interested. Bill

Pat, Sign me up for a pair for a 24" prop! How about a pair of "Wild Hare Bunny Slipper wheel chocks" or if your wife can make the "Bunny Ears" large enough how about "Bunny Ear Wing Bags"[sm=tongue.gif]! LOL

RE: Looking for prop gloves.
I'm sure it wouldn't be as easy as it sounds. There is a hobby shop in town and the owners wife has a set up for making wing bags. I could check with her about the prop gloves if your wife thinks it's too much Silversurfer. One other thing. Not to sound against the idea but, wouldn't the bunny ears have a tendancy to get dirty at the field. One other thing. I think it would be a good idea for someone to make light weight bunnies to go under the canopy. Of course it would have to have a bent over ear. Bill

Wing bags and prop covers all get dirty at the field. Currently all the available the prop covers are made with canvas so I'll have her look into some other fabrics that are easy to clen and still do the job well. I'm not home for awhile but she has access to some various props up to 28" in diameter, and some examples of covers to work with. I'll call her tonight and see what she says.
I like the bent ear bunny idea. Don't know who would do that one, tho. Anything that looks like a stuffed animal at my house is instant Dane fodder[X(]

I think the bunny ear covers would be cute...but I would prefer some embroderied covers with Wild on one and Hare on the other..

I spoke to my wife. She said she could do it, but she won't work cheap. After 33 years I already knew that, but what can I say. She said she could do them in 3 different colors, all with pink "inners", black, red, or grey "outers". For props from 20" up to about 28", $20.00 plus shipping USPS, which is the cheapest way. Larger props would require that you speak to her.
I await the outrage at the price, but I won't be the one to argue with her. She's tough[X(]

RE: Looking for prop gloves.
She told me that one size should fit from about a 20 to 28" prop, inclusive.
The folks that may be interested should e-mail her at [email protected]. Make a note in the subject field about prop cover or the note will probably never get opened. She's not too quick about using a computer, but I'll let her know she should start paying attention. Crappy on a computer but man, she can sew!!
Oh, I almost forgot. Her name is Dolly. All notes direct to her or a PM to me from here on out folks. Better going direct to her.
Tom, forgive me for using your forum on this. I don't plan on this being a long term endeavor, just a few for the "Hare Force" so to speak.
