Yak Attack !!!!
Well I got good news this evening. UPS notification that something is headed my way from Wild Hare. That can only mean that Tom sorted through all them boxes & picked out my Yak, seein' as how thats the only thing I have on order! Expected delivery date is Wednesday. I'll be losing sleep 'till it gets here. The goodies to finish it off are all lined up & waiting.

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
So dp I Tom. I really appreciate you getting it for me. When My wife saw that plane she said it was the prettiest thing she ever saw. I thought it was just a little on the fairey side myself but just perfect for her. Besides, she's gonna fly it maybe 2 or 3 times & then she'll loose interest. At least thats the plan. I'm figuring that as soon as she sees it flies NOTHING like a Kadet Senior ( her other plane) one of two things is gonna happen. Either she is going to hit the simulator with a vengeance, or she will give it to me! Either way I win.

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
UPS delivered the Yak today. Double boxed, it arrived without a scratch. The covering is perfect, & I didn't notice any damage to anything. Some initial observations, the landing gear is polished! Wing tube too. Whats it made of? Shines like stainless but it is very light (the wing tube that is), I think a carbon fiber wing tube would be a waste of money. The tail wheel looks to be of a good quality but the tires that came with the plane are interesting looking. I will be replacing them with Sillivan Ultralites anyway, the ones with the aluminum centers. Not as light as some but I build my planes to see a lot of action & the Sullivans hold up very well.
Tom, I really appreciate you going the extra mile & getting me the prototype scheme plane. Most dealers wouldn't bother & trust me, you made Trish a happy camper. She says that its the prettiest plane she ever saw!

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
I didn't post any because they were posted a few months ago & I figured nobody else got one so no one would want to see it. Basically, it looks just like this:

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
They just started arriving at peoples houses today. I won't be starting the assembly before next week sometime. I think some of the overseas buyers got theirs first but only one guy has posted & he is waiting on DA to build some engines.

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
UPS just dropped off 2 brown boxes
Anxiously opened the box & found that the Yak was double boxed & arrived with NO damage. There were no covering wrinkles & everything seems great. As mentioned above Wing Tube/Landing gear are polished. The Wing Tube slid into the wings easily & fits in pretty nicely. The included hardware came neatly labled in plastic pouches. (I hope this is standard & not metric ).
Plane feels real light & looks like will be a blast with the DA50.
Only problem is, I had just finished the 28% ExtraLX & am now debating on workingon this one & flying it instead
Attached are some pics..

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
Tom mentioned in another thread that the Yak is almost the same size as the Extras/Edges but should build a couple of lbs lighter. I'm guessing I can get this puppy in the air at right around 13-13.5 lbs. I thought most of the 28% stuff was building around 17-18 lbs. My Hanger 9 260 (similar construction/size) came in at 13lbs 2 oz. I think this should do the same. If you put a DA Fiddy in this thing its going to be a mesquito on steroids

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
The one I built with a DA-50 was 14.75 lbs. The hardware is US size, not metric.
The wheels are foam and are very light duty, I suggest getting something more substantial.

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
I finally broke down & mocked up the Yak tonight. The fit is very, very good & not a wrinkle anywhere. My only dissapointment is no painted lines on the canopy. [] I had to drill out the aluminum in the fuse just a tad for the landing gear but that didn't take long at all. All the paint lines on the cowl lined up perfectly. I coulda got a lot more accomplished if I could have quit staring at it & did a little work! Tommow night I'll probably mount up the engine & get started on the control arms/hinges.
Tom, I'm going to be mounting a Brison 2.4 in this rascal & I was wondering.... It seems to me I recall you mentioning that this plane was actually built with glow power in mind & you had some sort of mod in mind for gas power. Shortening up the firewall maybe? Is that something that needs to be looked into or just something you were considering that didn't work out? I don't mind doing the work if the return is worth it but it appears that it will come pretty close to balancing if built all stock. If it would be beneficial though I would rathr do it now that after it has been built & flown.

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
Thanks, I didn't think it needed doing with this light little engine.
I do recommend that everyone go over all the glue joints in the front of the plane though. Mine has very little glue holding the engine box together. I added tri-stock to the inside of the firewall area & I will place a couple of layers of fiberglass cloth over the outside before mounting the engine. I also went over all of the glue joints in the radio compartment as recommended in the manual. I added a piece of tri-stock to the front of the F1 former to strenghten it too.

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
So far I have the engine installed, servos installed, control horns installed, hinges in the flying surfaces, landing gear installed (front & rear) & the pull-pull done for the rudder. This rascal goes together quick. As soon as the glue sets up in the flying surfaces I can finish up the hinging & then do the control rods.
I had one brainfart though & cut the wrong opening for one of the elevator servos. [&o] Don't watch TV while doing things that need at least most of your attention. A quick patch & it is hardly noticable but it still Pi$$e$ me off. Just call me an idiot!

RE: Yak Attack !!!!
If anyone flies one of these plese post your experience with it....I am really curious to know how it flies compaired to the WH 28% EDGES and Extras... I am really contemplating on getting one of these if another Edge is unavailable in the very, very, near future... meaning in 2 weeks or less...It will soon be that time again when the weather will be perfect for flying.... GO AWAY WINDY DAYS....GO AWAY!!!!!
