yak and da 50
what length stand offs are being used on the yak? I have a DA 50. I know it says this motor is perfect for the yak just wondering if it makes the wing loading a little high?
is it hard to get the cg back far enough with the 50 on the front? |
RE: yak and da 50
Right now I have the 3" standoffs, but I wish I would have gone with the 2.5" since I am a little noseheavy. I since have moved my two Li-ion reciever batteries to the rear and dropped the choke servo off the front and it seems to be working great. I flew the first few flights with it nose heavy and it was a huge pain to land hot every time, and when I would try to flair the landings it would wing rock extremely bad. GO TAILHEAVY and enjoy the Yak.
The DA-50 is not that heavier than an Evo 40 that some guys I know have in their Yaks, and with a little more power you have a little more "get you out of trouble" power on the left stick. |

RE: yak and da 50
cool ill check it out. I saw a thread where a guy used shorter stand offs and shortened the cowl with the da 50 to get the weight back.

RE: yak and da 50
I have the 3 inch stand offs, a standard DA muffler, and aluminum spinner. The plane was tail heavy so I moved my 2 lithium ion 2400 mah batteries to the area where the landing gear mounts. It's still a tad on the tail heavy side and fly's great. At first I was so concerned about it being nose heavy that I bought a carbon fiber spinner, however with it the plane was too tail heavy. I think the standard muffler made a big difference and believe it or not it looks good.
