RE: Baby Edge replacement?
Got cha Tom..... I'm loving my 41%, but need a plane to learn more 3-D/freestyle with. I'm between this and the new V-2 50cc edge.
|
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
Either one will work. The new small planes are so light they are fairly economical. An OS 1.20 AX really doesn't burn all that much fuel, or a Evolution 26 gas is good.

RE: Baby Edge replacement?
Tom,
So would a 26cc gas engine (Brillelli 26) be a good fit for the extra 260? And how about servos. I have some JR DS821's laying around. I don't do 3D, just IMAC/sport flying. Nice looking plane! |
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
The Brillelli 26 should work fine (just an educated guess) and the 821 servos will also do a good job.

RE: Baby Edge replacement?
Forgot one question. What is the dimensions of the cowl? Width is most important I guess. Just wondering how the Brillelli 26 would fit etc.
Thanks Tom. |
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
The width on mine is 8 inches, height is 7 inches (both at back of cowl) and overall length is about 9 1/2 inches. I am putting an Evolution 26gt in mine and would guess it to be close in size to the Brillelli. I have no experience with the 26GT so will be interesting to see how it turns out. Would sort of like to put a Dubro soft mount on it but it is already going to be pretty heavy up front so may just go for a good old fashion beam mount. Not in a big hurry to finish but will report the outcome when I get there.

RE: Baby Edge replacement?
Thanks for the dimensions.
The B26 is 6.2" wide so that should fit fine. The b26 is a bit heavier at 45 oz. Your E26gt is 33oz. But the Brillelli weight includes the muffler. Not sure the weight of the muffler on the E26gt. I haven't purchased anything yet. But sure would like to have a plane this size for easy transporting to the field for a quick flight. |
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
The Evolution is listed as weighing 32.8 oz and I'm sure that is just the engine alone. The Brillelli 26cc at 45 oz is the muffler and EI all together plus it's turning a 16X8 prop at 9600 rpm..
|
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
Well I didn't know either so put it on the scales. The engine weighed exactly what the literature said. 32.8 oz without the muffler. The muffler I have is the side mount one and it is 5.5 oz with the ignition coming in at about 4.5. So the whole thing about 42-43 oz. It doesn't make for a really pretty engine and cowl combination as the carb on the 26GT sits out front and the cowl on the edge slopes towards the front. So there is quite a bit of the carb sticking out from under the cowl with the inverted mounting. On the plus side sure is easy to get to the choke. More as I get it done.

RE: Baby Edge replacement?
I'll be anxious to see how the 26gt performs.
Anyone know if the Brillelli 26 and Evolution perform similiarly? Looks like the weight is very close. And the brillelli is only $325 with muffler, standoff's and EI. |
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
Do you know what your AUW will be?
|
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
If it were me building one I'd go with a Brillelli engine and I'm only saying that because I've owned four of their engines and they run pretty good. Not only that but you'll save yourself about $165.00.
|
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
I agree. Cost saving is pretty big between the two. Scott's support is 2nd to none. I have a 366gt and it's an awesome engine.
I'd like to see how this E 260 performs with a 26cc gas engine. I like the size of the plane. I have some 821 servos sitting here. Just the cost of the plane and engine..plus hardware. pretty decent price for a nice sized plane. I'm will be building a Cuda this winter and need something to keep me in the air until the Cuda is done. And at the rate I build that will be next spring! |
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
I am guessing the plane with the Evolution 26gt will be around 10lbs. I am sitting at about 7 3/4 or so with the engine mounted and counting all the linkages. I am going way overkill on servos with 5 Hitec 5985s but I have them. Will be using one LiIon battery and reg for the controls and probably a 1200 NiCad for he ignition. It is pretty easy to find a good 26GT on the used market if you trust your fellow RC'ers. I got mine with Muffler for $250 so will not have a lot in the plane. Only real question is will I be able to get it to ballance and how will the power be.
|
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
I'll be interested to see how the power is as well. Hope you get to fly it soon. It's a nice looking plane and the cost is very reasonable. Thanks for the weight calc.
|
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
I'm also thinking about this plane as the home for an Evolution 26gt I have. I have a buddy offering to trade his 3mm TOC 53 straight up and I'm not sure whether I should go with the baby and my Evolution or trade for the 53 and buy the 28% edge.

RE: Baby Edge replacement?
Sailing1, do you have some news about the performance with 26gt?
|
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
Nope, been gone for most of the week and headed back out again tomorrow so will probably be a couple of weeks before I get a chance to try the plane.

RE: Baby Edge replacement?
What size prop will the babies allow you to swing before they start mowing the lawn?
|
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
What do you think guys (specially Tom) about the brillelli 36gt on this baby?

RE: Baby Edge replacement?
AUW would put that at 3.5 lbs. It'll fly like Tom's on a 160FX which he kept saying was too much power but at the cost of being a little heavier.
If you need the rocket effect and reinforce the engine box, well have fun and send pictures. It should stick further under the cowl. But if as has been said the 120AX is sufficient to 3D, the 26 sounds like it should do. |
RE: Baby Edge replacement?
Has anyone flow this plane side by side with the extra for comparison?????????
How well would a ys 110s yank this plane around for 3d (I am @ 5000 ft) How would you say the plane compares to the AW yak 120??????? THANKS 871 |
