Default Pre-buy inspection of YS140L

Hello everyone,

I'm going tomorrow to go look at a used plane with a YS140L in it. What recommendations would you make for inspecting the engine before buying the plane? Is this a reliable engine?

THanks,
Bart

I've owned a lot of that particular model and had great luck with them. Make sure the bearings are smooth and it has some semblance of compression, not high like a two stroke ABC but not anemic either.. If possible ask the owner to run it for you. The two things that are regular maintenance items are the bearings and the ring. Also look in the exhaust port and make sure it isn't choked with carbon. That is very much a fuel dependent issue though.

OK, thanks for the reply Pete. I can swap bearings and rings so if the rest is reasonably strong and reliable then I'm good to go.
