Default 140dz stops

Hi Dave,
My 140DZ flies flawlessly on the first flight of the day.
Then on the second flight it will run for 3 minutes then dead stick after a short low throttle coming out of a loop or any other procedure were you would use low throttle management.
It has a large plume of smoke all through the throttle range.
Starts are relatively easy.
I was thinking maybe it is to rich on the regulator.
APC 16-10 at 8700rpm 20% oil coolpower (10%lv&10%normal) 15% nitro OS F type plug.

any ideas before i start screwing around.

PS it now has a brand new carby after an accident the other week. It had the same characteristics before the accident.

Regards Lawrie

I can't imagine why it runs fine on the first flight then problems later.

It could be too rich overall, but I'd add nitro. 15% is really not adequate.

Will give it a go.
I will batch some 20% nitro for next week also try a new plug. Then try to lean the regulator a touch.

Thanks for your help Dave

Since it's a DZ, it is not a regulator, but a pump. It could be a part of the problem, as some of the 140DZ pumps didn't function just right.

HOw do you tell if the pump isn;t operating properly??

I have the same plane /engine combo as above. I purchased it for 500 bucks plane and YS140DZ , because the motor was quitting during areobatics and deadstick landings damaged the gear/fuse .

When the motor ran , it ran well, but sudden stops...the previous owner ran it on a 16x4 at 10,500 for 1 flight before he someone toldhim that was too much RPM. He didn;t use full throttle , just enogh to fly it. But it even deadsticked then. He went to a 17x10 and it deadsticked and damage.

I am reluctant to rebuild the bottom of this plane and just TRY the motor without knowing what is going on.....

Should I Static test it on a bench ....and try the tuning steps again, or just send it in?? Sound like a mechanical problem in the motor??

It was run at HS 2 turns to 1 1/12 turns.

I got it cheap , and I know that when it is right it will stay right. My 1.10FZ is fine after getting it back from service.

Can;t wait to fly this combo.

Hi Dave,

Flown the plane today screwed the pump out 1/8 turn anti clockwise and made up 30%nitro 20% coolpower half LV and Half standard.
After using the new fuel the trim was not low enough to shut of the engine sat there idling at 1200 rpm for a minute or so and still picked back up to full throttle.
eventualy it did stop.
Topend i set full throttle peaked the engine at 8800 then richen it up to 8500 with a 18x8 APC.
vertical was unlimited with a 6.1kg plane behind it i think thats about 13.5 ponds it just kept going up until you could not see it.
the engine now runs flawlessley all flights easy to start.

Thanks for your help
