Default YS 63 in Funtana 40

Dave,I have a Funtana 40 with a TT Pro .46..I want a FS. I was leaning toward 91 Saito, as I wanted over powered plane, and all the Funtana threads advised to way over power and use throttle control. ( I have no 4 stroke experience)Then I heard about the YS line of engines. I do not know of anyone personally who owns one, so I am at a disadvantage in YS experience, and there is not alot on the web.
I see YS no longer makes a .90 size engine, and a 110 would be to much for a 40 size Funtana, so that leaves us with a .63 YS. In one of your threads you said a .63 would be good for a 5-5.5 lb plane. Would the FZ63s pull the Funtana 40 around with authority??? This going to be my 3D plane.
I really like the idea of supercharging and not fighting with fuel tank problems, plus I read that the YS spools up faster and out torques anything in it's class.. I read that the 110 has the same power as a Saito 150, therefore ,a fz63s should be equivilant to a Saito 82???? Am I on the right track????? Thanks, MG

Default RE: YS 63 in Funtana 40

I can't help you with the YS question, but I can tell you there are no problems with the fuel situation with the Saito .82, I am running it on my Funtana 40, I live and fly at 4000ft and this plane is absolutely ballistic on the Saito .82 with a 14x4w, 15% cool power. The YS turns the same rpm rang as the .82 and is not rated for the large wide blade props like the 14x4w. I have nothing against ys engines except that I have heard opinions that they can be trouble to tune, I have not run any. I have run the Saito .82 and can tell you that it gives the Funtana all the power you could ever want for the most extreme 3D manuvers.

The 63S makes about the same power as a Saito 82.

I know of guys who are flying your airplane with the 110, but it is serious overkill. How much does your airplane weigh? If it's under 6 pounds the 63 should be ok.
