Default YS45 needle valve position

My 45 side exhaust runs on the bench with the needle vlave open only 3/4 of a turn. Is this about the correct position?

If it runs OK, it's fine.

I flew it today, and the needle valve position is very touchy. I had four engine quits after ~3 to 4 minutes. It has a new tank with new filters in the fuel line and fuel jug. I just put in new bearings, cleaned the carb and new gaskets along with the pump parts. I put in a new glow plug, but it still quit. I am using the Fox(miracle) glow plug. The motor quiits at ~1/3 to 1/2 throttle. I was using a 11/7 prop.

Thank You

Throw the plug away and put in an OS #8. What fuel are you using?

Local brand, (Houston, TX) Ritch's Brew, 15% nitro. Been around ~25 years or so.

Fuel is OK but you might try less nitro, especially with the Fox plug if you decide to keep it in.

Flew again today(Wednesday) , tried the os#8 plug with the same results, it leans out after the first five minutes, after I land and richen out the valve it flies okey for another minute or two and the same thing happens. I tried cool fuel (better brand) 15% with the same results, but when I switched to 30%nitro that the helo boys use it ran great! But, that is kind of pricey. Is there another way to go?

I have no idea. 30 nitro should have made it worse if it were an overheating condition. It's difficult to tell since I'm not there to see your installation and how you run it.

Sorry.

Make sure that your needle valve has not come apart - changing the settings without you touching the needle itself.
