Default What version of the 120

How can you tell if a 120 is the SF or the NC version? I don't see any markings on the case. Thanks

Unless you know where to look its very difficult to tell the difference between those 2 engines. They are essentially the same in almost every way. Externally on the case there is no way to tell. I think the biggest change was the piston. However any of the 120 pistons will work in any of the 120's so its not a functional change.

Thanks Troy, I thought there was markings on the mounting flanges but could not find any.

How about the 140FZ and the 140L is the a way to tell the difference?

Yes there is the 140L has the big nub on the rear of the Carb to mount to the Yamada motor mount the 140FZ did not have this. The 140L has a crankshaft ring, and a larger bore carb. Even though it is stamped 140FZ.

The case is identical and its really a FZ-L or FZ"Limited Edition"

The newer 140FZ-2 or as its sold here in the USA is the 140 FZ-Sport and the case should be marked as FZ-S.

For reference the 140 Sport has the same carb as the 140L but it doesn't have the crankshaft ring. So in the power department. 140FZ, then 140Sport is about 100-200more rpm, and then the 140L is another 100-200more rpm. This is all on the same prop and fuel.

By the way from a personal standpoint the FZ and the Sport are more docile and shake much less than the L. At idle the 140L can start to shake a bunch. Its just a little more harsh sounding since the super charger is stronger. I prefer the 140FZ or the 140 Sport over the 140L Not that it really matters much there is avery little difference between them.
