Default YS 45 Operation Help

Dave Please Help!

I just purchased a pattern plane with a YS 45 mounted on it. I cannot seem to get the engine to run all the way up on the high end and have no support documentation about general operation of an engine of this type. This is my first attempt to operate a positive pressure displacement power plant such as this and I am really anxious to see what it can do compared to my standard for this size (os 46 FX).

No matter how I adjust the needle valve or I continue to lose the engine above 1/2 throttle. I would also like recommendations on types of fuel, props, and glow plugs that have proven to enhance the performance of this engine. I look forward to your help.

Thanks

Creighton Larkin

How far open is the HS needle? They normally run at about 1.5 turns open. At 2 turns it will probably quit rich at full throttle.
These run fine on any go 10 or 15% fuel. Prop size 10x7 or 11x6 should be about right. but what is the pipe set up to run at?

Dave,

Not really sure. The set-up has a header such as the type for a tuned pipe but the pipe itself is more like an aftermarket silencer. I might be able to produce a digital image that might be more helpful. I will try the 1.5 turns on the needle and see what the result is and let you know

Thanks,

Creighton

Default Creighton..

Will you be able to bring it out to ARKS Sunday (4-20-03)? I'll be happy to try to help you get it going.

Jeff,

Good to hear from you. I did manage to get the engine/plane going after changing the carb and fuel pump. It really runs strong! However during one of my landings I lost one of my retracts due to some hidden structural inadequacies (so much for buying planes from people that you don't know anything about). So it's back to the hangar for a while for the supra fly.

I went to ARKS and got in some great flying yesterday. My Hot rod 4-star 40 is really running well. I did some arial combat against Rod's 35 "fun one" it's neat to see a plane that wasn't designed to go that fast outrun something!

Come fly with us soon (don't forget our May Fun Fly!)
