Take the valve cover off and rotate the prop....watch the tappets...you will know when its at TDC....If you bring the prop up against compression and then rotate it about 60-90degs past this point slowly...you will feel the "notch" at TDC. You can adjust the valves at this point. By the way this is the best place to store the engine as well. This assures that both vlaves are closed and the springs on them are not compressed.
The way I do it is I rotate the prop until the Exhaust valve is down or going down...and then I adjust the Intake Valve...
Rotate the prop until the Intake Valve is down or going down and I adjust the Exhaust Valve. You don't need to know where TDC is for this....
