I have a YS 140 DZ fitted to my TF Mentor.
It replaced an OS 120 which was underpowerd for the model.
The engine runs fine on the ground with 16x10 prop, 20/20 fuel, but as soon as I take off the engine quits.
I use about 200 metres of runway before lifting of.
I have richened up the main needle and the pump but no different.
Any suggestions?
Darryl

Check for leaks on the fuel system, is the fuel tank stiff enough to hold the pressure? are the hoses in good shape? your engine is leaning out due to lack of fuel I presume.

Hello Aperira.
It is a non pressurised system, not a pressurised fuel system with the DZ.
Thanks for the reply anyway.

Oh DZ,my mistake, check the valve clearance, and is it smokin? The DZ should always smoke a lot, try increasing the fuel pressure cw about 2mm. Anyway, it looks like a valve problem so far, if the regulator does not do anything, tune to peak and open the high speed needle until it drops 200-300rpm, if it still does it then it's a fuel supply problem.

Hello Aperira.
The engine is brand new, so I would presume the valves are ok. But saying that, my YS110 did not run from new, and I found the regulator full up with swarf and other rubbish, so may be worth checking them.
It runs perfect on the ground, HS needle is rich, and it does smoke a lot. i have richened the regulator by turning it CW, but will try it some more to see what happens.
It does appear to lean when in the air due to the cutting out, but It I would of thought it would do it on the take off run as well as it is so long, and the engine has had time to unwind a bit.
Good job this palne floats aso well with flaps down.
Will not be able to try for a couple of weeks as going away on business.
Thanks for your reply, all information helps

One thing on the DZ, if the high needle valve is opened too much it behaves as if it's lean, try the needle at 1 and a half turn open, do not fly with more than 2 turns, that might also be the problem. If it smokes on idle and transition but transitions well then the regulator is fine.
