YS170 high speed needle valve setting
I have a new YS170 with some bench time and three flights on it. I have a hard time figuring out if I have the high speed needle valve set right. I how you should find the high speed RPM peak and back off a few 100 RPM, but I don’t have much luck doing that.

It seem like when I am trying to peak the RPM, the engine is slowing down because it is warming up, so there is not much constancy between the RPM and needle valve setting. Maybe I am not giving it enough time to heat up completely.

I must be running it rich enough at two turns open. It burns through 20oz of fuel in a 10 minute flight and has a good smoke trail.

The other details about my setup are: I am using a NMP can muffler and velocity stack. I get around 8300 RPM with an APC 17x12 prop and 30% Cool Power Heli fuel. I am at about 5000’ altitude and the engine is in an EF Yak 54 74” weighing about 12.5 lbs.
